Where does this girl's name come from? Is it short for something? My daughter loves Woolly and Tig on Cbeebies and it makes me wonder every time I watch it. The family in it are Scottish...is it a gaelic/scottish name?

Antigone? (Greek, I think)

Antigone is definitely Greek. Surprising choice for a name though, can't imagine there's many kids around called that.

I just googled Tiggy Legge-Bourke and she's an Alexandra. What's that all about?

SchmaltzingMatilda Sat 19-Jan-13 09:08:26

Tiggy Legge-bourke, who was a royal nanny/pa, was an Alexandra.

Didn't realise she'd died either.

SchmaltzingMatilda Sat 19-Jan-13 09:10:46

My bad - she's still alive and kicking

CelticPromise Sat 19-Jan-13 09:16:36

Ha Matilda you need to get on the dead or alive thread!

wonkylegs Sat 19-Jan-13 09:18:15

The only Tiggy I know was short for his surname Tigglesworth

MummyPig24 Sat 19-Jan-13 09:27:46

I know a little girl called Tiggy, short for Antigone, her father is Greek.

Bluestocking Sat 19-Jan-13 09:46:02

Tiggy Legge-Bourke's nickname is something to do with Mrs Tiggywinkle the Beatrix Potter hedgehog.

topsyturner Sat 19-Jan-13 09:50:43

Teigan possibly ?

seeker Sat 19-Jan-13 09:50:52

I know a Tig short for Agatha.

I also used to know a Plods, short for Penelope.

Posh people are sometimes very odd........

persephoneplum Sat 19-Jan-13 11:11:54

I know an Antigone who is Tiggy, Tig and Tigs for short. It's a heavenly name - adore it.

LingDiLong Sat 19-Jan-13 16:49:45

Thanks all. I think it's quite a cute name for a child but you'd definitely need a longer version for when you're an adult. The child on the TV program is very, very cute and definitely suits the name.

Alisvolatpropiis Sat 19-Jan-13 20:10:07

I agree with it being a obvious nickname for Antigone. There was a girl a couple of years below me at school called Antigone. I think it's a lovely name!

hatebeak Sat 19-Jan-13 20:11:49

I thought it was Theresa for some reason...

sydlexic Sat 19-Jan-13 20:22:24
