Yay or nay?

Of course its a real name. Emmylou Harris is in fact a US country / western singer (with huge success).

But I would avoid calling a child this in Britain, it doesn't sit well with the conservative mentality of many.

My name is Emma Louise <outs self> when I was v small I sometimes used to get EmmyLou as a nickname (my mum was a fan of EmmyLou Harris) but never get called it now, it is quite babyish I think? As soon as I started school my name got shortened to Em anyway.

I think it's a really sweet nn, but not as a given name.

Emmy sounds like a twee, babyish nn for Emma/Emily/Emmeline/Emilia or even Clementine or Clemency

Lou is a nn for Louise/Louisa/Lucy/Lucille/Lucinda/Luna/Lucia

There are so many nice, classic names there, you can choose two lovely ones and still have an Emmylou.

I think I'd go with Emily Lucia or Emily Louisa
