For a girl he likes Elizabeth or Hannah
I like Demri or Keomi
<sigh>
Our choices can never be reconciled. We have argued endlessly about it. However I have taken to saying he can pick for a boy and I choose the girl name, knowing with all my instinct it is a girl...
Oh dear. I think you need to find a compromise tbh.
And sorry but his names are much nicer. Do you like Naomi?
We have very different tastes but somehow got on well enough to marry!
Yes, compromise is the answer. I don't like Naomi much, which is a shame.
My big problem is the names I like best have deep meanings (to me) behind them compared to his way of picking which is just to choose two nice names.
Yes - dp and I also had v different tastes in names but managed to compromise. Naomi was one of our compromises! DD1.
I think the name Naomi is pretty, it just was the name of DH's ex
There are lots of lovely names that have lovely meanings too.
Carys - my beloved one
David - Beloved
Cara - Beloved
Luke - Light giving
Yes those are lovely meanings.
Thank you. Cara is very pretty. will try it on H
Elizabeth and Hannah are lovely. Your names... sorry, no.
I have an Orla (meaning princess) which is traditional and usual (as long ad you're not in Ireland in which case it's rather popular!
How about...
Effie
Ophilia
Felicity
Arlo
Finley
Noah
(Looked back on that list and see how random a mix it is!)
I tend to watch cbeebies birthday cards and the end credits of a tele program for ideas, you get a good mix on there!
That is a good tip!
I'd let your DH pick go with a more traditional first name and the have a really awful meaningful name as a middle name.
Are your names names? I have no idea how they should be pronounced.
His choices are lovely, particularly like Elizabeth.
I see on Googling that both of your name choices have been used before, but they do sound very made up to me. Your dh's choices are certainly very different. That doesn't however mean that it's not possible for the two of you to find names with meanings that you like and sounds that he likes. I think it is really important that both parents choose names.
If you are really at an impasse then one option is to chose a baby name book, and then each separately draw up a list of names you like, swap them and pick again. This should give you a shortlist of names to pick from that you both like without too much arguing.
We had this problem, it's so frustrating. In the end we wrote a list of about 15 names. some he liked, some I liked and some we both thought were ok but had reservations about. When she was here we looked through the list and there was only one name that suited her which was one of the 'just ok' names. Now we both adore her name! Random suggestion.... Cora Elizabeth? I love this but doesn't go with our surname. I also heard of a girl called Camry the other day which I rather like. Good luck!
I have a very unusual name (never met another). It's horrible to have a very unusual name. People don't remember it and can't pronounce it. It can really cause a lack of self confidence for the child. Surely you can find something that is not too popular but not highly unusual??!!
How about:
some variation on Lucy/Lucia?
Miranda?
Imogen?
Marina?
Verity?
All quite unusual (these days) and striking, but clearly recognisable as names with a tradition of being so.
I know a lovely girl called imogen and all her friends call her midge. best of both worlds!
Had a simliar thing with my DH. We both had very different naming ideas. However, I'd really recommend that you find a 'compromise' name, one that you both like but perhaps isn't actually your first choice for either of you...
Don't bet on your instinct about having a girl being right.
Wasn't there a thread a while back where someone promised her dh their next DC's could be called the name he loved because she was certain that it would not be a girl or that DH would forget
She was in a panic because her chickens had come home to roost!
(I think the name was Beatrice, which I thought was lovely!)
No, it was Blanche!
And by the end everyone (including me) had decided Blanche was a fab name
Xanthe
Blythe
Persephone (nn Percy)
Stephanie (nn Stevie)
All names were made up to start with, they didn't arrive in some official baby name book sanctioned by some higher power! However the two names I like are not made up by me, but even if they were that wouldn't make them inferior, just more imaginative.
this beautiful woman is why I love the one name, also my degree was about the PRB so hence the personal meaning
Yay! Blanche!! Which is a lovely name!
Was that you? And if so, what did you call your dd in the end?
<say Blanche, say Blanche, say Blanche>
Keomi is lovely btw. Especially with the pre-raf ref.
I really like Keomi too BTW, but you are a bit stuffed if your DH hates it.
