Having a four month old myself I go to a lot of baby groups, is it just me/ my area or has Rose suddenly become the middle name of choice for baby girls?. I must have met at least 6 babies with Rose as a middle name. I really like the name but don't know where this has come from!

It is very popular, likely because it is simple, sweet and compliments most first names. Some baby Roses might also be named for relatives.

It is a pretty middle name, I can see why people like it but it is getting predictable now.

Because there are hardly any one syllable middle names and they go best with long first names.

Fashion. My generation are all Something Jane. This generation are all Something Rose or Something May.

Oh yes, absolutely. It's just one of those names that goes with everything, and is pretty and feminine to boot.

It is so ridiculously overused as a middle name though.

Happens all the time though. Everyone I went to school with seemed to have either Ann(e), Jane or Louise as a middle name.

Dd's middle name is Rose and she's nearly 10, so it's not a new thing!

It's Grace around here.
I know 4 Erin Graces born in the last year, and a further two other babies with Grace as their middle name.
DD is 13 months old. Her middle name is 1 syllable and is not May, Grace, Rose or Eve.
For my age group, it was Louise.

My 8 yo niece's middle name is Rose, after my grandmother.

Its really annoying me my dd (7) middle name is Rose and I only had it because it was my great grandma's name. I didn't even really like it but my nan asked me just after I gave birth for it and now it's everywhere gah.

dd was Sylvie-Rose. I always liked Rose, as I picture the flower when I say it but didn't really want to use it on its own. I had four boys so my friends family had all "stolen" my girls names over the years. One of them was Sophie. Typed it into nymbler.com and it came up with "Sylvie" as an alternative.
Turned to dh, said "How about Sylvie-Rose?" He thought it was beautiful too. Still thought we were having a boy until she was born.
She was Sylvie-Rose for seven weeks, then she died. One thing that kills me is never getting to enrol her for anything, never getting to write her name on a form, or see her name up on a list. I so love her name.

Not at all, Caity. I like talking about dd's name.

I think Shirley Hughes might also be a tiny bit responsible. I always loved Alfie and Annie Rose. I couldn't use Annie Rose though as MIL is Anne and she would have lorded it over my mother if we'd called dd after her and not Mum.

It's either Grace or Rose around these parts. Very predictable. I love both names as first names, just not as a middle name because they are so overused.

I wonder why Rose in particular isn't used more as a first name?

My dd has the middle name Rose, after my granny. Didn't realise it was so popular until I came on mumsnet. Oh well!

Robbie Williams probably hasn't helped matters with Teddy Rose....there will be even more now!

My middle name is Rose, i know quite a few my age with the same middle name. My great grandma's middle name was rose! Def not a new thing.

Hmm it seems to me that naming dc after grandparents and keeping names in the family plays a big part is the Rose/grace/may names.

DD mn is May after my late grandmother. Had no idea it was so popular till I stumbled on MN.

DD also has middle name May after my DM and DGM's middle name. DD is 15 and at the time I didnt think it was commonly used, but did hear a lot of Mays afterwards, not that it bothers me.
