Have always thought off Jake as being a chav name (sorry for using the c word!)
Jacob has been quite high on our list and is not overly popular where we are but am really coming round to using the NN Jake.
Will admit this is mostly because of cute baby Jake on cbeebies :D
What do people think? Yes or no?
I think Jacob is beautiful but I just don't like Jake. I don't think you can use Jacob if you don't like Jake - just like you can't use Thomas if you don't like Tom, William if you don't like Will, Joseph if you don't like Joe.
Jake is just one of those names that seem to get hollered out in supermarkets a lot ('round here - I think it's just because it's popular; top 5, I think, now and it's been a favourite of mums and dads for a good few years) and, let's face it, what name sounds good when it's bellowed out?
I have a jacob, I think it's a beautiful, timeless name. At home dh and I call him jake, grandparents hate nn but I had him, I'm bringing him up, so I will decide what I call him at home!!! Not so popular in my area and I don't think it's chav at all. Go for it!! all the best babies are nn jake!!!(grin) Ps hate baby jake on cbeebies, hes scary
I like Jacob and Jake.
Love Jacob, dislike Jake. Jay much nicer nickname.
I too really dislike Jake, sorry. Jacob is quite nice.
What about Jack as a nn instead of Jake.
There are far too many Jacks out there already imo - wasn't it THE most popular boys name for a number of years?!
I like Jacob and Jake. and I'm no chav!
I like both names, and find baby Jake unbelieveably annoying. Now you've put that bloody song in my head again! [grr]
Good names though. The Jack thing seems to be waning here, I've not seen that many about at all during the rounds with Baby Goo.
I have a Jacob even though I hate the name Jake. It really suits him and it was the only name dh and I could agree on.
We never call him Jake and if anybody else does then I correct them. But I have resigned myself to the fact that as he gets older his friends may call him Jake. By then I think he will be old enough to decide whichever name he wants to go by.
Thank you for opinions
Def can't have Jay or jack as NN's due to surname/close family members names so any NN would need to be Jake.
My only problem with Jake is we could not use the middle name we want as it sounds very weird so would need to change that.
Bit late but my ds1 is Jacob. He has never been called Jake although some people do call him Jakey. Mostly it's just Jacob though.
I also like Jacob but not Jake - I think it just has a harsh sound to it. I don't think it's 'chavvy' though.
I like Jacob - classic and not too overused.
Jake (or Jace?), on the other hand, doesn't look or sound very nice at all, sorry.
Never liked Jacob much - that 'ob' sound is a bit obby, to my ears.
My son, however, is called Jake and I think it's a beautiful and great name. (Obviously).
Agree with Scrimshaw, Jake is a great name. Jacob is OK.
But if I had one, I would probably put Jacob on the birth certificate and let him be known as Jake.
DS is called Jacob, but not shortened at the moment to anything, lovely name I think, obv!
Lol at Jack being too popular and Jacob not.
I'm not keen on Jake as a nickname either but do like Jacob. Personally would call him Coby for short.
I've got a Jake. Don't mind that people don't like it of course, its all relative and that....I think its a great name. I know there are lots around but I think its a sweet kind of name - we put Jake on the birth cert, not Jacob. I do know a Jacob though and he is a Jacob, never a Jake.
I love the name Jacob. I teach one and the name doesn't get shortened.
Less keen on Jake, probably because I taught a class with three in it last year.
