Help! This is a sister for Aurelia.

No idea why it is so important to me to find the right name, as she's not due until Feb, but for some reason I NEED to have the right name sorted (I think it's that I imagine that I will 'bond' more with the baby if I know her name; please don't flame me, I'm hormonal!)

Girls
Allegra
Amber
Camilla
Claudia
Francesca
Natalia
Sophia

Would be grateful for thoughts or other suggestions. Thanks all

Not that keen on Amber tbh, and Sophia is much more popular that Aurelia.

I might not have had two with the same initial, so that could count Allegra out.

I like Natalia, but it's a bit similar to Aurelia. Love Francesca with Aurelia.

Marcheline · 27/11/2012 14:18

Thanks Wave.

DH loves Francesca but I worry that it doesn't have a particularly nice NN (I don't like Frankie or Chescka)... also it is one of DD1's middle names - is that OK?

RosannaBanana · 27/11/2012 14:28

I wouldn't do Francesca if you don't like the nns.

I like Natalia, but do you like Nat?

Would agree about A names... Claudia is lovely but not nice meaning.

How about

Lydia
Marina
Verity
Gabriella
Hazel
Valentina

Marcheline · 27/11/2012 14:41

No, I actually don't like Nat, but I do like Tally / Tal.

(No offense to anyone called any of the nicknames I profess to dislike, sorry!)

Verity is gorgeous, but our surname ends in a 'y', so it was discarded (I loved Liberty but DH overruled for the same reason).

Marcheline · 27/11/2012 14:42

Are there other NN's to Francesca? DD1 has a strange NN that I don't think anyone would normally give to an Aurelia, so I'm not averse to creating something totally different.

FeuDeSnowyRussie · 27/11/2012 14:45

Allegra - not keen, sounds a bit harsh to me.
Amber - no
Camilla - Parker-Bowles, no
Claudia - lovely
Francesca - gorgeous
Natalia - it's nice, but very Russian (not that there's anything wrong with that, just seems odd on a UK child to me) and I don't like Nat.
Sophia - lovely

I love Aurelia too :)

FunnysInLaJardin · 27/11/2012 14:48

I know a Francesca whose nn is Chessie. I quite like that

Rhubarbgarden · 27/11/2012 15:03

I like Amber. The others are all a bit long and frilly for my taste.

Marcheline · 27/11/2012 16:37

Aah, I think I am definitely a 'long and frilly' type. I tried desperately to convince DH that Mirabel was perfect, but he wasn't having any of it. Ditto Allegra, which is my utter favourite (so favourite that I left it on the list, in the hope that it will be a middle name or something).

Funnys, Chessie is quite nice actually.

Feu, thank you! That is exactly what I needed. Have immediately crossed off llegra, Amber and Camilla.

I don't mind that Sophia is more popular than Aurelia, as we chose DD1' name because we loved it, rather than to be obscure (if that makes sense) so am just looking for a name that we love just as much, and has a good nickname!

OP posts:
FeuDeSnowyRussie · 27/11/2012 16:49

Glad it was helpful OP and good luck choosing! My complaint about Natalia was only because all the Natalias I know are Russian and I've never heard it for an English person, but it is a beautiful name. Natasha is its most common nickname in Russia - but that's no shorter than Natalia :)

FunnysInLaJardin · 27/11/2012 16:57

btw March I love the name Aurelia. I had Auralien on the list for my DS's

thegreylady · 27/11/2012 17:42

I love Francesca-the one I know has nn Frankie
I also know a Sophia Francesca

blondiedollface · 27/11/2012 17:46

Marcheline Can I ask what your DD's nn is? Aurelie/a is our girl name for our next (and last) DC and DH is worried about her nn when older especially as the accent where we live would permanently render her Orally if Aurelie which makes us prefer Aurelia!!

I think Sophia Allegra is a beautiful name for Aurelia Francesca's little sister :)

SurreyWithAFringeOnTop · 27/11/2012 18:15

Claudia is the nicest by far. Really lovely.

YouCanBe · 27/11/2012 18:21

Hmm, I wouldn't choose another name ending in ia and I wouldn't choose another starting with A.
So I am only left with Francesca and Camilla. I prefer Francesca.

Marcheline · 27/11/2012 19:03

Thanks Funnys, we love it massively, which is why a name for DD2 is so hard! A boy would have been a piece of cake...

Blondie, we call her Relie (pron Ray-lee) - a little odd I suppose, but it suits her just as much as the long version. French people do tend to call her Aurelie but I don't mind, it's essentially the same name. The orally connotation never crossed my mind until u read it on MN, about a week ago!

Our Aurelia is actually Aurelia Scarlett Francesca Blush we got very excited about names and just went for it! She was originally Aurelia Emily (DH's choice) but it just didn't seem right after a few weeks. I'm embracing my flouncy side this time; no apologies for long, frilly or slightly over the top names!

Cynner · 27/11/2012 19:05

Marcheline, I am crap picking baby names (all my spawn have V names) but I LOVE your name!

Marcheline · 27/11/2012 19:07

Oh and Sophia Allegra is absolutely beautiful, but DH won't let me use Allegra. He isn't ruling it out, but I know he hates it so I'll go with something else we both love. Please can someone else use it? That would be wonderful Grin

Marcheline · 27/11/2012 19:08

Cynner, Marcheline was sadly vetoed by DH!

Camilla! Put it back on the list please.

Marcheline · 27/11/2012 19:25

Isn't Camille a boys name? Or is that somethin I made up in my pregnancy brain?

Parker-Bowles has ruined it a little bit for me...
