Twee and precious. Sorry.

agree with everybody - Marianne is gorgeous.

I am the only person on the thread who dislikes it! grin

On that basis OP, go for it!

I absolutely love it.

If we ever had a fourth, we'd consider it for a girl, even though it's similar to DD's middle name.

This was on my girl list but I'm having another boy.

I was going to use Manon for short.

RosannaBanana Mon 26-Nov-12 10:55:07

Told you it was a Mumsnet fave! wink

Cahooots Mon 26-Nov-12 10:52:27

I love this name, it is really pretty. It is perfect smile

Frikadellen Mon 26-Nov-12 10:48:08

Its a pretty classic name

A very feminine, pretty name.

love it, love it, love it. I'm too old for more dds so you can use it instead of me!

Love it. Prefer Marianne with the "a" sound at the end though in the continental way to the "ann" ending that the UK tends to give it.

Really like it, Marian is a bit old fashioned but maybe due for a resurgence, but Marianne is lovely.

ditzydrawers Mon 26-Nov-12 09:37:59

Just realised I sound a bit of a div describing my daughter's name as 'edgy'....best word I could think of. Anyway, use it, it's gorgeous!

aprilrain Mon 26-Nov-12 09:33:39

Gorgeous name. Apparently my parents considered if for me, but in the end they chose s much more popular 1970s girl's name. Always been a bit envy that they didn't go with Marianne.

Graceparkhill Mon 26-Nov-12 09:33:09

I know a lovely grown up Marianne so the name has positive vibes for me.
I think it is elegant and graceful and unusual without being wacky.
If you get my drift...

ditzydrawers Mon 26-Nov-12 09:30:22

I have one...she's eight months. I love the name, obviously.

I'm not one of those who hates it when other people want to use a name. I love hearing of other Marianne fans. We haven't met any other tiny ones yet so I think it's pretty unusual but, as someone else said, it's not kooky or out there.

Definitely not tarty, imo either! To me, it's fresh and a bit edgy whilst also being pretty. Hope that makes sense...

Know two Mariannes, one in her twenties, one six months old. Neither name is ever shortened. It's a lovely name.

grin hugoagogo. It is absolutely my favourite and my best.

Mu1berries Sun 25-Nov-12 21:51:34

Classic but not that used. It's pretty but still strong. I know one and she's lovely. An adult not a child. I don't know any children called Marianne! There should be one so go for it.

hugoagogo Sun 25-Nov-12 21:37:09

I am only one 'ist' away from Lola there aren't I? <kicks self>

sudaname Sun 25-Nov-12 21:35:41

Marianne Faithfull was on telly other night. She was gorgeous, so serene looking but apparently they were all on drugs in the music world in them days

hugoagogo Sun 25-Nov-12 21:35:40

It is my absolutely most favourite name ever! dh vetoed angry

trudat Sun 25-Nov-12 21:29:57

I love it too smile

It was on my list for dd but dh vetoed. Why? I have no idea.

Lovely, uncommon but not weird, kooky or try hard either. What's not to like?

ThePathanKhansWitch Sun 25-Nov-12 21:21:55

Love it.

It is on my list as a middle name but I am not convinced as a first name except perhaps with nickname Annie.
