Alba - what do you think?

Just that really...thoughts on the name Alba (girls name)

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Wasn't Alba a cheap electrical brand in the early 90's - made naff stereos?

I personally don't like it. But if we all liked the same names there would only be one name for boys and 1 name for girls. Variety is good.

CruCru · 13/11/2012 20:21

It was the name of the daughter in the Time Travellers Wife. I like it - unusual but everyone will know how to pronounce and spell it.

iamwhaticallpregnant · 13/11/2012 20:22

First thing that pops in my head is 'Jessica Alba' - not sure if I like or dislike. Sorry to not be that helpful.

Novia · 13/11/2012 20:23

Very pretty. My Spanish niece is called Alba, it's a fairly common name there.

theladylovescupcakes · 13/11/2012 20:24

Nice name, unusual but not too "out there". Also the Gaelic word for Scotland.

coldcupoftea · 13/11/2012 20:31

Lovely- it is a character in the fantastic Isabel Allende book 'House of the Spirits' and means 'dawn' in Spanish.

SoftSheen · 13/11/2012 20:31

I've met two little girls called Alba recently, both aged about 2 years, so it does seem to be growing in popularity. Personally though, I hear it and think 'Alma', so not too keen.

backjustforaminute · 13/11/2012 20:34

I thought of "House of the Spirits" too. Quite like it (the book and the name!)

FriggFRIGG · 13/11/2012 21:15

I like it!

Slainte · 13/11/2012 21:17

I like it, sounds strong and unconvoluted. I did think of Scotland when I read the OP.

ItsMeYourCathy · 13/11/2012 21:17

My friend has just named her newborn alba (Zat you h?!)

susiedaisy · 13/11/2012 21:17

Not sure, reminds me of electrical stuff. Sorry

SundaeGirl · 13/11/2012 21:18

Alma with a nose block

Alisvolatpropiis · 13/11/2012 21:58

Itsme no I'm not your friend lol! I also know somebody who has just called her daughter Alba. Don't think it's the same person though.

I was just wondering what people thought of it,as it's not a very common name.

Who said Alba was also Gaelic for Scotland? That's interesting because Alban is Welsh for Scotland.

Cheap electrical goods.

BBC ALBA.

JollyJock · 13/11/2012 22:45

I love it. Because it means Scotland. Dh doesn't and has vetoed it :(

tipp2chicago · 13/11/2012 22:45

Love it.

Doesn't go with DH's surname unfortunately.

JollyJock · 13/11/2012 22:46

Actually, I have just put it with our surname and it doesn't work as surname starts Bla.

LittleBairn · 14/11/2012 10:41

It's beautiful especially if your Scottish. I would have it on our list but DH feels its too patriotic.

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/11/2012 10:57

LittleBairn...tell DH there's no such thing as being too patriotic, especially when you're from one of the fine Celtic Nations! Lol!

If I could find an attractive form of Wales, that could also be used to for a name, like Alba can for Scotland,I would be right in there. :)
