Baby names

Barney, Monty or Freddie

Am 27 weeks with DS2. DS1 is Hugo (middle name Edward) so I do like 'posh' names (if DS2 was a girl, the name was going to be Charlotte or Elizabeth).

The name on the birth certificate will be Barnaby, Montgomery or Frederick.

Which do you prefer? I know these names won't be everyone's cup of tea, but the world would be a boring place etc etc

thanks

I like Freddie. Monty I like too (will be our dogs name when we eventually get one - not that that should put you off). Barney not so sure about, as we had a rabbit called Barney.
Like Freddie the best and it goes nicely with Hugo I think.

Monty was our second choice for DS2. Freddie is lovely too but Barney is a dinosaur.

Our little girl would have been called Monty had she been a boy.
Love love love that name! I also love the name Sebastian Grin

Wow, 3 replies and not one slamming - I have clearly underestimated MN!!

I know that Barney has the big annoying purple dinosaur association, but is that really still current? In my mind it's about as current as Barney Rubble (but that might just be my age talking!)

Owl I like Sebastian too - but it's been 'taken' by a relative so it's out.

I would love to meet a young Frederick who is known as Frederick at least some of the time as it is a great name.

I like Monty.

I don't like Barney at all and see as quite the opposite of posh, but that could be just me.

Freddie is very popular here, and one that I know is a complete and utter sod. Barney really is a dinosaur for me, sorry. Or a scruffy boy in a farmyard with hay in his hair, not sure why? Monty is cute, no negative things I can think of there! Go with Monty! My nieces are Charlotte and Elizabeth, their boy name was Daniel but maybe not to your taste?

Montogomery is gorgeous, classy and elegant and Monty is a cute nickname. Barney is nice too. I'm least keen on Fred/Freddie.

Love Montgomery, nickname Monty. I 'm less keen Barney or Freddie, sorry. But how about Tristan or Quentin?

Thanks, looks like Monty is the most popular choice. I think it's the one we will end up going with as DH's heart really isn't in Barney (as much as I love it, sob) and both of us fear DS2 will become 'Fred'. We'll now have to wait and see what he 'looks' like!

Only Freddie out of that list. Monty sounds so silly. Like an old war hero. Barney sounds so self-consciously middle class. Might have liked Barney ten years ago though, not now.

Monty. By a long chalk.

Barney makes me think of Stig of the Dump and is a bit too sweet.

Freddie is v popular now, def not "posh" in the way Monty is.

Love Hugo, think Ralph, Rufus, Crispin, Gabriel, Henry, Alexander, Rory, Theodore, Benedict all go well.

Barnaby is great, but Barnie is no good, I'm afraid. He will be destined to grow into a big old oafish buffoon of a man with a name like Barney.

Monty and Freddie are both good.

I really like Monty. I prefer Montague to Montgomery, but I do like both. Barnaby's nicer than Freddie. For me Monty is the clear winner. Smile x

They are not names I would chose but I like them for other people IYSWIM Smile.

I think Monty or Freddie are the nicest. Barney wouldn't be a purple dinosaur to other children any more I don't think but you would still get a lot of his friends' parents having the "what's that little boy called?" "Barney" "oh, like the purple dinosaur?" conversation Grin. Although that may not bother you.

My favourite "posh" name is Jolyon, just love the sound of it although DH would never entertain the thought of using it.
