Is Marianne different enough to Marian?

I love Marianne but don't like Marian at all - do you think they are different enough?

Also what's your favourite of these:
Mary
Marianne
Miranda
Martha

Thanks!

Marianne is a really beautiful name - and I don't like Marian either.

Also love Miranda.

Marianne is quite different to Marian.

Love Miranda, then Mary and Marianne. Martha is a bit dowdy.

Marianne is 728 times prettier than Marian.

I also like Martha a lot. Not dowdy at all to my ears.

Miriam is so drippy!

Marianne is my favourite, also really like Marianna (realise that wasn't on your list though!)

Although Maryam is pretty. I think I must just prefer broad vowels.

Yes - don't worry it's not an option for me! It's a v humble name, and I want a precocious daughter!

Apparently my Mum was going to call me Marian. Thankfully my auntie talked her out of it. I really like the name Marianne though, it's all in the pronunciation. Of the others I like Martha.

I love Marianne - campaigned for it with no luck for DD. I thought it was perfect - Leonard Cohen and Sense and Sensibility in one go! Don't like Marian either, totally different name somehow.

Otherwise Martha's my favourite from your list (actually was very nearly DD's name as it's one of the few DH and I agreed on).

I love Leonard Cohen too -- and it's not too overtly religious / catholic. Also I think it would be fun to learn to spell when she was little? Marianne.

I wonder if you got called Lucy - now that would be weird.

'Tis a great song.

I'm always jealous of people who have a really cool song with their name in the title.

Not Cecilia though, or Delilah, either of those names would be a mahoosive pain in the bum.

Yes - or to an extent Clementine. 'Oh my darlin' etc.

There is a world of difference between Marianne and Marian. One is so elegant and poetic and the other is so frumpy and mumsy.

I also like Miranda.

I see someone mentioned Marianna. That's really lovely.

Marianna is very pretty but I like Marianne as it is a bit more different without that 'a' ending lots of names have now. Maybe she could be called that for fun occasionally!

Marianne is a lovely name and much prettier than Marion. I have a Martha so that is my favourite from your list Smile

Martha is super cute but just v similar to a family member's name. Martha has a great Tom Waits song to go with it!

I really like Marianne (was on my list but DH hated - never had a girl anyway!)
I saw the name Miryama once and thought that was also pretty. I dont really like just 'Miryam' but I quite like Mira. If that exists. and Mirelle. But I don't know how you'd pronounce (MIR-ELL or MIR-AY or MY-RELL)
