Baby names

Daenerys. Unusual but pretty or just weird?

This is the name of a character in tv programme/book Game of Thrones. She is a strong beautiful woman and I love the name but I am not sure whether it is just too weird. Please can I get your opinions?

Honestly? No. It's difficult to say, difficult to spell, and she'll spend hr life explaining that she was named for q character in a book everyone will have forgotten about by the time she's 10.

Sorry but it sounds/looks a bit like a pharmaceutical product.

I really wouldn't name a baby after a character in a book that hasn't had the ending written to it yet - who knows, by the end of the series Daenerys might end up a hideous psychopath who shags horses.

You could always just go for Nerys, although that brings up memories of Nerys Hughs.

My eyes keep thinking it's an anagram of something so it's a no from me.

It's a yes from me! Especially if she is born this year, the year of the dragon.

Although I know Nerys is a girl's name the combination sounds masculine I think.

Oo, I'm not familiar with the book so I
Just found it odd, it's not a usual sort of spelling?

Is it da-nerys?

It sounds ok. I'm on the fence!

I thought this was a thread about a brand of the Pill before I realised it was in Baby Names.

Back in the box that made me laugh out loud! Purplehonesty-not quite getting the pharmaceutical product but thanks for your honesty! I think I will stick with my original name Grace Rose.

Or Arya? That's pretty...

Grace Rose is lovely.

Danae? (dan - ai - ey)? Should be an umlaut-type thing over that e but I don't know how to do them here.

NellyJob · 26/09/2012 23:05

weird tbh

Arya is nice. The Rose part of my original name is after my nan.

Much as I like Daenerys Targaryen and her general dragon queen type brilliance, I do think you'd regret it immeasurably.

Arya is pretty. And Arya rocks.

Or Summer after Bran's direwolf? Grin

I met a little Arya recently.

I like Daenerys but the constantly having to spell it and the potential for it to be shortened to Dany put me off.

Waaaa it is denise!

Think you've made a good choice there.

Books good? I might take a look.

She does rock actually and I can imagine any daughter of mine being quite as tomboyish as her. I think Daenerys as nice as it is is just a bit too much. And I still love Grace Rose. It's good to get people's opinions though

I always fancied naming dc after hobbits, but that didn't happen!

Ha ha so what did u name him/her if u don't mind me asking? DF has a Polish name and constantly gets mistaken for someone who is not English.
