Thinking of this for DC2 (if girl) with nn Pru.
What's the verdict? Is it a bit too off-the-wall?

Are there many Baby Prus around? Will she be teased ("prude"?) and is it an especially bad idea to do it if we move to France which is currently on the cards?

I really like it but it's a bit of a Marmite name. Do you like any other virtue names?

I'm not a fan TBH, and if you shorten it to Pru, I can't help but think of Prue Leith the judge on Great British Menu!

Other virtue names: Hope, Faith, Charity, Constance.

Sorry!

TheOnlyPersonInTheRoom Tue 25-Sep-12 21:08:58

I am really into virtue names. DD1 has one. I feel that Hope and Faith are too popular and I hate Charity. Constance is nice and also on my list but I don't like the nn Connie. I am too fussy!

Any other virtue names?

I like Prudence, also like Constance, Patience, Honor and Verity

SlightlySuperiorPeasant Tue 25-Sep-12 21:14:00

Love Honor.

TheOnlyPersonInTheRoom Tue 25-Sep-12 21:15:49

Yes I love Honor too but can't get DH to buy into that one!

Patience is interesting I will have a think!

TheOldestCat Tue 25-Sep-12 21:17:38

Prudence makes me think of the Prudential, but that's testament to the field I'm in!

Patience is beautiful - you could have the nickname Patti, also lovely.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant Tue 25-Sep-12 21:18:57

Chastity? grin

Liberty is another one.

Llanbobl Tue 25-Sep-12 21:30:01

Pity about Honor, Liberty is good. Chastity makes me think of Emmerdale. There is also Grace, but that's quite popular at the moment. There is also Mercy (but maybe not if you're thinking of living in France wink), Felicity and Blithe/Blythe

Prudence makes me think of Gordon Brown and someone with a cats bum mouth!A colleague of mine has a daughter called True. Quite pretty..

YouMayLogOut Tue 25-Sep-12 21:33:06

I quite like it. Patience is nice too.

Felicity

My mums middle name was Prudence and she HATED it. I mean, if any of us kids ever mentioned it - it was not a joke or something to be laughed at. She HATED it.
Not saying your dd would... Everyone has different opinions of names for one silly reason or another...
If u love it, choose it! wink

TheOnlyPersonInTheRoom Tue 25-Sep-12 21:35:44

Ha I know what you're saying about cats bum mouth... But I sort of think that might be 'old' connotation and maybe there should be a new wave of Prudences!

Felicity is beautiful but DD1 is Verity and I think it's too similar?

I'm going to work on Honor but I'm not dropping Prudence. It was good enough for The Beatles after all...

Are there many boys virtue names btw? I can only think of Ernest confused

Llanbobl Tue 25-Sep-12 22:03:03

Boniface, Clement, Francis (nn Frank - maybe stretching it a bit) and my favourite Felix

BananaBubbles Tue 25-Sep-12 22:15:05

No,no and a thousand times no to Prudence. It's hideous.

BananaBubbles Tue 25-Sep-12 22:16:14

Verity and Felicity go very well together imho.

I would be seriously pissed off if my hypothetical sister got a lovely name like Verity, and I got landed with the incredibly unattractive Prudence.

wizzler Tue 25-Sep-12 22:19:19

I love Prudence... have you read Precious Bane ? ..
Also like Faith, and Clemency...

jaffacakehips Tue 25-Sep-12 22:23:43

What about Angelica?

lollystix Tue 25-Sep-12 22:44:37

Clementine?

dearprudence Tue 25-Sep-12 22:48:34

I think it's marvellous! wink

Actually, we did think about Prudence for a girl, but it wasn't our final choice.

ViviPru Wed 26-Sep-12 08:57:35

I think it's marvellous!
So do I, dearprudence wink

Hedwig3 Wed 26-Sep-12 09:10:02

Fabulous!

Mama1980 Wed 26-Sep-12 09:11:18

I like it smile how about Temperance?

I have a distant relative called Prudence, about 50 now. She always hated her name and had the piss taken constantly. Please don't do it.
