Posh GIRL Names Wanted Please!

I know, I know. It's who you are/how you act, not your name that makes you. But I adore those posh, fancy names like Cressida,Romilly, Araminta, Jemima etc. They're pretty, with history, but are underused. I already have a list of boy names I love (Willoughby, Hugo, Julius, Montgomery, Caspian, and Atticus) so just girl names are needed!

Note: I also am fond of the slightly ridiculous names like Digby and Osbert, Zelda and Hebe. But that is for another thread, another time!)

Seems that 'posh' names are really beautiful, long, feminine, often European, names. I love them all!!

Particularly Antonia, Arabella, Carolina, Cecilia, Dorothea, Eleonora, Louisa, Seraphina, Valentina - really beautiful!!

These are what I call '1930s boarding school names'. They were the names of the characters in a lot of the books I read as a child, which I inherited from my mum.

My three favourites are Anastasia (pronounced Anna-star-zee-a), Petrova and Marguerite (strange, because I hate the name Margaret)

I'm not sure if what you want is "posh" or just long and feminine? I went to an all-girls boarding school and I can list some of the names of my class mates... I've also met plenty of people with these names since. The really unusual ones - only one or two girls with that name are in italics. Personally, with the exception of Meredith (and possibly Miranda), I wouldn't consider any of them... they are either boys names with-an-a or too try-hard. If I had a daughter I would go for one of the more classic names on this list or similar (and she would be going to a similar school to me - sadly a consideration when choosing a more 'flowery' name I think)

There is much more movement and names seem to move 'downmarket' over time. I think all of these names are simply 'pretty', feminine and not overused names.

I believe that she may have been quite posh since there was great disapproval of her choice of husband. He was not well to do enough or some such apparently.

I agree with Tremolo that that some of the really, fancy names do come across as "try hard". Really classy are understated names IMO: Jane, Rachel, Anna, Kate etc, but I know many would see these as a bit meh.
