Baby names

good, classy English girl names...

I'm looking for classy* English girl names that aren't absolutely common like Elizabeth, but aren't stuffy and past their prime, like Muriel. Combination of scullery maid names and lady of the house names wanted, but more the latter!

Current List:

Georgiana
Henrietta
Cordelia
Harriet
Imogen
Beatrix
Clementine...except having doubts about this on an adult
Flora
Hermione-I know this and Penelope are Greek, but they also seem English, if that makes sense.
Penelope

*By "classy" I mean a name that isn't trying to hard, but isn't fished out of the gutter either.

You've got a few Shakespearian names in there. Some to add are

Mariana
Marina
Miranda
Rosalind or Rosaline
Paulina
Juliet
Diana
Lavinia

.... there are more

Clementine Churchill was only ever really 'known' as a middle aged adult and then older and the name was fabulous for her Wink. What's putting you off it? It's not a name used much so not common.
I almost called my daughter Cordelia instead though.

I think you've got most of the best ones there already!

My personal favourites that fit the brief are:

Georgina or Georgiana (but not Georgia)
Penelope
Cordelia
Evangeline
Felicity
Lois
Cecilia
Clementine
Xanthe
Edith (a bit too popular now though)

But also lovely are:

Caroline
Elizabeth (I don't think it is particularly common, is it? Just very well known)
Juliet
Jemima
Camille
Estella
Marianne

@CheerfulYank I'm afraid I do, really, but sometimes the fact that it is also the name of a fruit puts me off...it has much more history than Apple, though! Will think on it. :)

I don't need more Shakespearean names, as they are beautiful but I've already got a whole list of them! Caroline, Jemima (can't use here sadly), Camille, Edith (except for the Edith on Downton Abbey gets on my nerves...), Evangeline and Charlotte are beautiful!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. :)

But surely the fruit was named after the name Clement, iyswim, rather than the name of the fruit being borrowed as with (Apple).

Clément Rodier

I like your list BBQjuly very respectable names!Violet is pretty especially because Violet Bonham Carter is such a good role model, Constance has old fashioned appeal too (also We Have Always Lived in the Castle is one of my favorite novels!)

I think, however, that I'm aiming for names that manage to be somewhat "quintessentially" English too, since those kinda of names are sort of proper yet quirky. Isla is just a Spanish word to me, not a name really, I like Pippa and Emmelime, and I'm adding Alice to my list! :)

All of the suggestions are helpful and lovely, except for Arietty! I haven't read The Borrowers or whatever it's from so I just think of it a a Japanese name!

Charlotte has caught my eye, as average a it is. Beatrice/Beatrix too, what with the princess and all
