good, classy English girl names...

I'm looking for classy* English girl names that aren't absolutely common like Elizabeth, but aren't stuffy and past their prime, like Muriel. Combination of scullery maid names and lady of the house names wanted, but more the latter!

Clementine Churchill was only ever really 'known' as a middle aged adult and then older and the name was fabulous for her . What's putting you off it? It's not a name used much so not common.
I almost called my daughter Cordelia instead though.

@CheerfulYank I'm afraid I do, really, but sometimes the fact that it is also the name of a fruit puts me off...it has much more history than Apple, though! Will think on it. :)

I don't need more Shakespearean names, as they are beautiful but I've already got a whole list of them! Caroline, Jemima (can't use here sadly), Camille, Edith (except for the Edith on Downton Abbey gets on my nerves...), Evangeline and Charlotte are beautiful!

But surely the fruit was named after the name Clement, iyswim, rather than the name of the fruit being borrowed as with (Apple).

I like your list BBQjuly very respectable names!Violet is pretty especially because Violet Bonham Carter is such a good role model, Constance has old fashioned appeal too (also We Have Always Lived in the Castle is one of my favorite novels!)

I think, however, that I'm aiming for names that manage to be somewhat "quintessentially" English too, since those kinda of names are sort of proper yet quirky. Isla is just a Spanish word to me, not a name really, I like Pippa and Emmelime, and I'm adding Alice to my list! :)
