Thoughts on Queenie?

I love Queenie, we are in south east London and I love that she would have a sense of relevant local history to her name.

There are a lot of the old fashioned names coming back around here like Dolly, Mabel, Ethel and Maud so I don't think it would be that out there and I really do like the idea of her beng able to tell people about the history of her name.

I quite like it. Very apt in this diamond jubilee year.

Shoutymomma Fri 10-Feb-12 18:50:57

Dear gawd, no. Mabel is pretty, as is Elsie, if you want old fashioned.

I like old lady names but this is taking it a step too far I think.

Awful - sorry.

Petrean Fri 10-Feb-12 19:01:35

Sorry but I think it's absolutely horrendous! Was it even a real name or a nickname in 1930-50s?

LaFilleSurLePont Fri 10-Feb-12 19:01:48

It's ghastly. Very 'Knees up Mother Brown'. It's not a name I'd care to live with. But then I think the others you listed are horrid too.

RickGhastley Fri 10-Feb-12 19:02:27

Horrid II'm afraid!

lisaro Fri 10-Feb-12 19:03:14

Way too far!!!

Stick with Elizabeth.

mynameis Fri 10-Feb-12 19:04:43

It's my nans name as she's 88. She has never liked it and has always used her middle name.

I think it's gorgeous to be honest smile

I love it! I want to use it (or Plum) for a nn for Victoria (if I ever have 12 children to name!)

PopcornBiscuit Fri 10-Feb-12 19:15:39

It's no worse than Dolly, Mabel, Ethel and Maud.

SingingSands Fri 10-Feb-12 19:16:21

Er, reminds of the old lady in the Adrian Mole diaries!

SparkleSoiree Fri 10-Feb-12 19:16:29

Elizabeth is still a very beautiful, timeless name and would still serve the same purpose?

dawn1967 Fri 10-Feb-12 19:31:08

I think it's quite cool and very individual. Would work as an adult too. Love it!

seeker Fri 10-Feb-12 19:33:27

It was never a name in it's own right- always a nickname. And you can't possibly use it in a Jubilee year- you just can't!

PopcornBiscuit Fri 10-Feb-12 19:35:39

People are always recommending Quentin on here, so I can't see why not Queenie smile

baskingseals Fri 10-Feb-12 19:35:58

i quite like it

what name was it a nickname for? or just a nickname like 'princess'?

EdithWeston Fri 10-Feb-12 19:36:24

When I was very small I knew a lady, who seemed very old, who was called Queenie. She was lovely, so I have good associations with the name.

If you want a regal name for 2012: Regina, Virginia, Gloria, Raine, Jubilee?

NotYetEverything Fri 10-Feb-12 19:40:55

I like it, but only as a shortening for Elizabeth. You would need to stay in London... I like Mabel and Maud too (always think of the Worst Witch though!)

seeker Fri 10-Feb-12 19:42:45

It was a pet name for Victoria originally.Presumably later for Elizabeth too.

TwllBach Fri 10-Feb-12 19:43:24

Regina is my secret fantasy name. I would love to use it <wistful>

PopcornBiscuit Fri 10-Feb-12 19:43:38

Cyrene means "sovereign queen".
