Aaron- how would YOU pronounce it?

DH and I both like the name Aaron pronounced AH-ron but hate it pronounced AIR-on. Those in the UK, how would you pronounce it?

I'm thinking Aaron James is quite nice.

DH and I have used the only other boy's name we could agree on (Daniel), suggestions for what might go with that, assuming this one's a boy!

It's a Biblical name and I've always heard it pronounced that way in readings at church etc.

Air-ron and I'm in England (S London). It is the only way I'd heard it pronounced until recently. Before then, like MathAnxiety, I would have assumed an Ah-ron was an Arran.

Aaron is AIR-Ron.

AH-ron would be spelled Arran, like the island.

Thinking about it, the only time I think i've heard it as Ah-ron is that baby from Lost.

Aaron to me (Londoner> is AIRron.
Aron or Arron would have a hard A, as in arrow.
Aran or Arran would have both vowel sounds as hard As.

I've know boys with all three names. I, personally, prefer Aaron, too.

Mmm, opinion seems pretty split! I went to school with an Aaron (ah-ron) and never heard air-on until that bloody singer Aaron Carter! Really don't like air-on or alternative spellings so might be back to the drawing board...

Air ron is how it should be pronounced, IMO.

I remember the window cleaner telling me his new son was called Aron and I said, "Oh, that's unusual, how do you spell it?" and he said, "A A R O N" and I thought !

I think this thread shows you that even if you chose the name thinking that it should be pronounced in a certain way, you and your ds would get a lot of people pronouncing it differently. It's a risk that you'd take with that name I think.

Always pronounced it air-Ron till I started teaching, have taught 20 or so lads with this name since and everyone pron it arron. Am in west mids

Probably a bit like Naomi which half will pronounce as Naymee and the other half will pronounce as NayOmee.

OP, you could probably get away with Ah-ron given the split opinions here. Be prepared for quite a few people pronouncing it Air-ron though. Or go with Arran.

DP is Aaron on his birth certificate, but Arron in day-to-day usage, he prefers the pronunciation.

I would say ah - run (or a-run, same thing I think). All the Aarons I know apart from American ones pronounce it that way.

I think the proper Hebrew way as pretty candles said is more clipped urun .....its the same as the aa in Isaac - iz-u-k.

I think it's a nice name, and the differences in pronunciation don't matter - pick the way you like and go for it.

I have a surname pronounced differently by different people within the same family (some say ay some say ah)

AIR-ron in UK.

It's universally pronounced like this in a Church context, and is the only version for the vast majority of the population. Only the young, who watched a great deal of US broadcasting, would ever give it a non-standard UK pronunciation.

If you are in UK, and hate "AIR-ron" and do not want to be telling people regularly that you don't want the usual pronunciation, then you'd be much better off with Aron (A-ron) Aran or Arran (A-ran).

I am a teacher and always ask. I teach quite a few. Most are Ah-run, only a few Air-run.

Well I would say A-ron, but only because my nephew has that spelling & pronunciation. Before that I would have looked at it and said Air-Ron.
