Baby names

I think I regret my son's name

DS2's name is Zakariyah (Zak or Zaki for short)

It took us ages to choose a name - had to be cross cultural which complicated things.

I've since come across an Arun and an Aydin and every time I think about it I wish we'd gone with one of those. Easier to pronounce, spell, and I just think they sound better. Feel sick when I think about it.

DS1 is one and it's probably too late to change but I've lost all perspective on this so any views welcome, either way.

I love the name Zak and often wish we'd used it!

Zak is much nicer than the other two imho.

You can change it by deedpoll at any age.

Neither Arun nor Aydin are cross cultural though, so if that was a what you wanted then they wouldn't have worked.

Zak is a great name and you're right, it's too late to change after a year. You really need to work out how to stop dwelling on it. You made a good choice.

You have a year to change their name without it being too much of palavar - but I think that's from registration not birth - but you'd need to check that if you are between the two dates. I'm sure you can still change his name if you want to - it's just more paperwork than in the first year.

How long have you been feeling this way?

How does his father feel?

Not that it matters because it's about how you feel - but I prefer Zak to Aydin or Arun.

Zak is a fab name. I have a 12yr old Zachary (Zach).

Zak's great. I almost chose Isaac for DS & sometimes wish I had as it has such a much better nickname than the name we plumped for.

I think Zak is much better than the other two and easier to pronounce and spell. Xmas Smile

thanks all... maybe it's because Zakariyah is a mouthful, maybe because my other son's nickname also has an A in the middle so they sound too similar...

...or maybe I am overanalysing, I have always been crap at making decisions

Maybe you just need to stop saying Zakariyah and just call him Zak :)

The whole thing is a bit of a mouthful - but you really don't need to use it.

Zak is fab and much nicer in my opinion than your other choices. He must know his name by now, it would be very confusing to him if you changed it.

Zac is a great name, it has lasted the test of time 2000 years and will not date like other names you could have choosen.

As for spelling I bet Aaran and Hayden will get fed up with having to spell their names and correct their names, no not Hayden it hasn't got an h at the front.

Zak and it's longer forms are great names. Just call him Zak all the time and stop worrying!

Zak is lovely. Just call him Zak.

Just think - those who chose Arun and Aydin only looked at page 1 of the alphabetical baby names book. You read right to the last page Xmas Smile

Zak is lovely and much nicer than Arun and Aydin.

Zak is classic. As others have said, it's been around for milennia so you must have been doing something right when you chose it! It's Hebrew so of course there will always be a squillion spellings for it... but very few people would not recognise it.

Aydin is dreadful.
Arun is ok, but Zak's better.

As above, you can change the forenames up to a year from the date of registration so if he's only just over a year, you may still have time.

I have a Zach. Short for Zacharias.

It is the groooviest of names. Don't worry!

Zak is lovely. Aydin is very confusing and odd.

Agree with the others. Zak is lovely. Arun and Aydin just look like you are being imaginative with the spelling of Aaron and Aiden. He would have lifetime of correcting how people spell his name.
