My favourites are Laura or Tara for a girl, Tom or Ross for a boy.

Love Ramona & Laura - my baby would be Ramona if I had my way but OH not keen. We both liked Laura for a while but he has gone off it and I'm not too fussed. Still wish I could bring him round to Ramona...

I also think Thea is really pretty but I'd always struggle with pronunciation a bit, end up saying Fia all the time as I'm not very good with 'th' sounds.

Laura and Ross are the only two I vaguely like. Parry and Austin are horrible imho and I don't like Ramona at all.

Missed Tom - that's the best of the boys' list by a mile.

Quite an 80s sounding list to my ears

GIRLS
Ramona - it's ok. Popular children's book heroine isn't she?
Roxanne (Roxy) - 80s porn star
Laura - ok. Classic, slightly boring
Tara - not keen
Thea - love it
Indy - nice as a nickname for India or Indiana

BOYS
Ross - don't like it
Parry - hate it
Tom - nice, prefer Thomas
Austin - ok
Lorne - hate it
Ryan - not keen

I'd go for Thea or India and Thomas.

How about:
Rowena, Romily, Robyn, Rosie, Lara, Lana, Teagan, Tiana, Taylor, Isla, Iris
Robin, Reuben, Preston, Tristan, Aaron, Aiden, Ashton, Liam, Logan

Ok, so from my lists these seems to be the ones that at least some people think are ok -

Thea
Ramona
Laura

Tom
Austin
Lorne
Ross

Im now thinking

Thea - maybe
Ramona - i really like this name, but think I couldnt go through with it because of the risk of Mona nn's
Laura - another maybe..ye maybe. I also like Lois but think maybe that Lois is a bit dull.

Tom - ye, it's nice but there are so many Toms out there, arent there?
Austin - I think this is a strong name, the Powers thing doesnt bother me, Austin Powers maybe well remembered by our generation but I dont think it'll continue to be popular in the future.
Lorne - I really like this, but wonder if it's too different (althou probably not if you're from scotland). There is also a town on the Great Ocean Road, Australia, called Lorne. Is it too feminine?
Ross - again I like this (obviously), I just need something to inspire me into 'loving' a name and believing that it's THE right name for our baby.
I also like Luke
My DH like Lewis, but (athou it's ok) I just dont think it's the name of my son.

Does anyone else have any opinions or ideas? I like traditional, strong names but am not so keen if it's v popular. Plus, a lot of the traditional names have been used by close friends and family already. Our surname begins with J, so I would be keen to avoid all names beginning with B or J.

Many thanks Smile for your help (it's so hard to find the right name)

BOYS

Parry - a joke, yeah?
Tom - once again, only half a name
Austin - pmsl
Lorne - dear god no - really - no!
Ryan - bit 'common'

Wow, there are some straight talking ladies on here - go girls!! Like the 'tude!!! It's like an episode of Bad Girls lol
There's names that everyone 'loves' and 'hates' and that's the great thing - we're all different. There also seems to be trends depending on the circles you move in and some names that move in lots of circles - like oliver, olivia, harry etc.
Thanks again for your time and input :)

I really like Austin, and Lorne sounds fine - however, a boy named Lorne might be called Lorna just for the heck of it by the other boys.

From the girls' names I like Laura, but prefer Lara, and Lorna is nice too..

Would you consider Rosanna or Renata instead of Roxanne or Ramona? Or Maxine?
Although I'm not a fan of India I think it's nicer than Indy.

I'm biased the other way Ross was the best looking boy in the school.
Joined the army and was just as dashing in uniform.Grin
Younger than me and way out of my league, but he was also very nice.
Anyway I've always thought it was a nice name as is Tom. Lorne I've never heard and Ryan is a bit down market. Lewis is nice, but don't tell dd i said that she got bullied by one.
Girls Romana, Laura, Thea are all nice.
Laura is much nicer than Lauren and Louis. I guess simply because it's the one of my childhood, like I prefer Emma rather than Ellen, Ella and Evie.
