It's top of our list right now. What are your opinions on the name?

I think my opinion is neither here nor there is you like it. Grin

But as you ask, it's OK. Not amazing, but no horrible.

Dora makes me think of Dora The Explorer.

Again, it's OK.....

If you like it use it - you wont want to hear my opinion on it!

Pandora... I adore ya!

I am old enough to remember Adrian mole!

It's not a name I'd choose.

Pandora's box has fairly negative connotations imo. Otherwise makes me think of the jewellry, which is either loved or loathed on MN.

Diamondwhite · 19/11/2011 12:33

ditto Adrian Mole

piprabbit · 19/11/2011 12:35

Either the women who released all the evils of the world from her box, or the unmitigated b*tch from the Adrian Mole series.

So not great connotations.

woman - there was only one of her Blush

HoneyandHaycorns · 19/11/2011 12:45

Another oldie who remembers Adrian Mole. Blush

Not a name I would choose.

helendigestives · 19/11/2011 14:30

She's going to get 'box' comments when older.

No, I wouldn't go for this either, also the Adrian Mole connotations and the fact that it sounds quite pretentious.
If you like Dora then why not just call her that, I think it is a valid name on its own. I don't like it either but I think it is better than Pandora.

I clicked on this thread thinking it was going to be about the bracelets-not keen as a name to be honest, think she would get teased.

Report
mopsyflopsy · 19/11/2011 17:30

I like it. Not read Adrian Mole though..

Report
scaevola · 19/11/2011 17:36

I really like it as a name, but do think "Adrian Mole".

I would also think twice because of the "box" connotations.

Report
evamummy · 19/11/2011 17:38

I like it, and Dora is a cute nickname.

Report
upatdawn · 19/11/2011 17:47

I too think Adrian Mole, not because I read them but because DS read them two years ago! So that connotation (and obviously Pandora's Box) are still around!

Report
AlmaMartyr · 19/11/2011 17:50

I like Dora but would worry about the connotations of Pandora though.

Report
scaevola · 19/11/2011 17:53

It's not the Pandora's box of Greek mythology that's the problem.

I have been rounded on before for pointing out current usage of terms, but for avoidance of doubt here the connotation that would bother me is the slang term for vagina.

I wouldn't use it simply for the years of teasing about "Pandora's box" she would face in her teens....

As with all the others, Dora I really like but would use as a name in it's own right. Far too many Adrian Mole / box opportunities for when she's older otherwise!

"I knew a Pandora once, never got to see her box though..." Grin Grin

But seriously, I do like Pandora, but I do fear that due to those bloody awful bracelets it will become very popular!

I thinks it's a bit 'pony-club' IYKWIM, not to my taste at all.
