Shortlist for a boy

Mondayschild78 · 27/09/2011 20:01

I'm 37 weeks pregnant with DC1 and found out last week at a presentation scan that we are having a boy so now all focus is on boy's names and it's all become a bit real Smile

DH and I have not agreed on many names but this is our current (and so far most definite!) shortlist:

Ethan
Travis
Elijah
Theo
Dexter (DH likes this but I'm undecided)

Feel free to suggest any similar options to consider! Thank you

Sorry I meant to say what do you think of these names? Do you like/dislike them? Baby Brain Blush

I like Elijah and Theo, then Ethan.

Travis reminds me of Travis Perkins and the band. Dexter too surnamey.

Thanks for the replies, it is helpful to hear peoples' opinions. I think my top three are Ethan, Theo and Elijah. Both Travis and Dexter do possibly sound a bit surnamey and both have links to serial killers which is maybe a bit wrong!

I have always loved Ethan and wanted to call my child this but it does seem to be very very popular at the moment. I'm not sure if it's really an issue though as I don't have any in my circle of family/friends but it would be a shame if there were 5 in the same class at school! So I'm feeling a bit undecided plus it would be nice to meet the little one before completely deciding Smile

Ooh great list! Love Travis and Elijah, both high on my list. Ethan is gorgeous too (more popular than your others). Theo is ok but doesn't set my world on fire. Dexter I like, though suspect it'll get heaps more popular after the One Day film!

I don't dislike any of them, but my fave is Elijah. Travis sounds a bit like it will date? The others more enduring?
Congratulations - enjoy your new bundle of joy - imminent now!!!

Congratulations on your DS. I like Elijah and Theo best. DS1 aged 3 is an Elijah and I still love the name as much as when we gave it to him. Ethan is ok, but very common, so it depends if that bothers you. Don't really like Dexter or Travis, too surnamey for me.

Dexter is my favourite. I really like Theo as well

I LOVE Elijah. Brill and not as popular, faddy or surnamey as your other choices.

There is a serial killer out there with the exact same name as my granddad. Needless to say, his name has died out as a family tradition...

Thank you everyone for your thoughts, it's really helpful. Surprised that pretty much no-one likes Travis although maybe it is a bit dated and lots of positives for Elijah which we really like too (although a slight niggling feeling I have is that it sounds a bit 'harsh' how it's pronounced in the UK with a strong 'J' as opposed to a softer 'J' - other than that love it!)
