Would you think I was a complete ponce if I named my girl Persephone?! How many of you have little Persie's? What response do you get? Confused

I love it. Elegant, feminine and not overused! Great choice imo.

But I seem to love 'poncy' names - maybe I'm a ponce Grin.

Lovely name.

Persie is very sweet for a little girl.

Persimmon is also good.

Thanks Flopsy! My OH says I'm posh...I'm not, I'm just a snob! What other poncy names can you suggest?

Lovely. I know of one little Persephone, nicknamed Sephie.

I love it! I'm not allowed it, so you should to make up for me!

Other lovely ('poncy') names - Antigone (Tiggy), Antonia, Ottilie? Are you after boys' names too?

I don't like it purely because of the phone part. It sounds like a musical instrument. Love sephie though.

Love Antigone too.

True Empusa, but I can't ever think of a name without 'seeing' it written down in my head and it will always be a musical instrument to me Grin

I love Ottilie! Dh has said no. Persephone leaves itself vulnerable for mispronunciation by the great unwashed some. Antigone is definitely food for thought..

How about Isolde, Annabel, Sybilla, Elsina?

Love Sephie as a nn! I have considered Ottilie but unsure. I think we have decided on a boys name (Reuban...I know it's spelt wrong but couldn't bear it being called Ben)...I am always open to suggestions though!
I also like Ariella....

How about Quentin, Thaddeus or Lawrence?

I'm 5 months pregnant at the moment. If I have a girl she will be called Persephone. My 3 year old daughter intends to call her either Posy or Polly!

Persephone means 'Bringer of Death'

I love the name but the meaning puts me off.

You make a valid point Redrubyblue!

A good friend has a Persephone: EVERYONE took the piss out of her name choice (behind her back) whilst telling her what a pretty/unusual name it is.

Quite surprising really as lots of my friend's kids have unusual names - but Persephone was the only one that has been so horridly slated.

Maybe your aware but the greek mythology is that Persephone was Zeus daughter who was abducted by Hades the king of the underworld and forced to live there. Persephone is the queen of the underworld and the name means means bringer of death. Not very sweet.

I hope I don't have friends like those Smile.

Persephone is a lovely name. I have never met one in real life, but I cant imagine anyone I know taking the mick if they heard of one.

Ah, but whenever Persephone comes back from the Underworld then spring returns to celebrate her being back.
