I have a Kathryn, but when she started primary she insisted the school call her Katy and they have done ever since!

Catherine Rose yes.

Kathryn looks so much harsher. Catherine Rose conjours up images of a carefree young girl picking flowers in a summer meadow.

Kathryn Rose is just a girl who could have been picking flowers in a summer meadow if only someone had called her Catherine.

I'm a Kathryn who has never been called Kathryn Not sure why my parents used it, as they have never called me it. I couldn't even spell it when I started school, could only spell Katy!

I think the Katherine looks prettier, but Kathryn is nice too.

And Kathryn Rose is a beautiful name.

2011 - Royal wedding & all.... Kathryn, hardly likely to be the only in in her class in a few years time is she - more like one of 10 (unless you aren't in the UK).

The Royal Wedding 1981 didn't result in an avalanche of Dianas, as far as I remember. Catherine/Katherine is a classic name which would never be associated with any one person in particular, and it has a variety of diminutives which distinguish people.

I don't like the Kathryn spelling, that type of affectation always makes t look like the parents can't spell.

There were a whole lot of things that didn't happen in the 80's that do now. I bet there are a LOT more Catherines/Kates (no matter how you spell it) in the next year or so. Anyway - we could run a book on it, no one will know for a few years.

Well - the registry will of course, what I meant was by the time you have chosen it, it will be too late and you probably wont know how many C/K's are around until your wee one goes to nursery.

Well I don't actually care if she's the only one in her class which might sound strange. Why would I if I like the name? to me, it seems stupid that people search for something unusual and unique only for people to say it's too pretentious or 'made up' sounding. You can't win. Plus even if I chose something really unusual there is absolutely no guarantee that someone else in my town might have had the same brain wave and there'll be 2 or more in her class. It's popularity really doesn't bother me. that aside I can not decise on the Kathryn/ Katherine spelling!
