DH wants to call our baby Robert after his uncle Bobby. I'm not sure....

Do you like Robbie, Bob and Bobby because he'll be called one of those.

I think it's a bit dull, but I was at school with many Robers. I do like the name Bob though.

My brother is called Robert.

I think its an ok name, he does get called Rob most of the time & gets called Uncle Bobby by my kids.
My dad was also a Robert but everyone called him Bob.

My DS2 is called Robert. TBH I didn't like it a whole lot but DH named him. I now LOVE it, totally grew on me.

Love the name, we used it as DS2's middle name after my Grandad, and we quite often call him Bob as a nickname.

Agree that you have to like ALL the potential variations though. My little brother is called Joseph, and although Dad and his partner really liked the name and don't mind Joe, I don't think they had thought about Joey, which they don't like and now lots of people use for DB

I really like Robbie for a little boy. I don't know any.

If your not 100% on the name, why not use it as a middle name?

I like it. Very cute nicknames when little but nice grown up name when older.

I think it's more important that the child does! or rather, that he can find at least one version of his name that he likes (and I include the name itself there)

Robert is a great name, as a classic it doesn't really date and it suits all ages. And plenty of room for manoeuvre with shortenings and variants.

My Dad is a Robert and only ever known as Robert.

Love it, my Dad is Robert - know mostly as Robert but sometimes Rob.

Its my DS1s middle name and we use it for him alot as it sounds so cute with his first name.

We also call him 'firstname - Robot' instead of robert and he likes that :)

If we ever have a ds2 he'll be Robert. Not entirely convinced there will be a dc4 either way but dh thinks there should be and even a dc5 etc until we get a ds2. I expect I'll get broody when dd2 stops bf but until then I just think he's mad. Great name though :)

My 19 yo nephew is Robert. Bertie as a child, grew into Rob as a teenager.

I'm not surprised he changed from Bertie to Rob!

I think that is a clear sign that DCs need the full name to get the options-or he would have been stuck with it for life.

I like it. It's my dad's name (he was called Bobby when he was little and is Bob now) and he's fabulous! :) DS is Samuel Robert.

We have a Robbie, Robert on birth cert, one sister calls him Bobbie, which is cute. No others in the whole of our large primary, so traditional but not overused.

I have a Robert, and known as Bobbie or Baby Bob as grandad is Big Bob. Again like Asinine I know of no other children called Robert.

I love Rob. Considered Robert for ds but as we are in Scotland he would've been called Rab by some [shudder].

Or Boabie.

I think it is OK but abit dated and overused in the 70s etc thus abit dull. Reminds me of my generation of Stephens, Neils, Davids, Richards..I like Robbie though.
