we have at last decided to alter dds birth cert .
her birth cert is felicity-cecily arabella . the hyphen was a post birth mistake which i truly regret . felicity and cecily should never have been put together in a million years again i can only blame the hormones and a rather tense naming stand off.

we plan to change it to arabella felicity but are unsure of her 3rd name
felicity is non negotiable dps choice
do we just swap arabella to the front and go with arabella felicity cecily despite it's obvious tongue twisting problems

alternatively we could go for arabella felicity cecilia same name in many ways but flows much better imo.

or do we ditch cecily altogether and find an alternative the front runners would be martha , matilda or octavia (she is dc8).

the last option would be to add a fourth middle name so arabella felicity new name (probably one of the above ) cecily . i realise this would be a mega mouthful and form filling would be a nightmare for ever more .

therefore choices are
arabella felicity cecily
arabella felicity cecilia
arabella felicity matilda
arabella felicity octavia
arabella felicity martha
arabella felicity matilda cecily
arabella felicity octavia cecily
arabella felicity martha cecily

should have added cecily was and is the name i loved ,a name which dp vetoed. i would ,however, be prepared to remove it in order to give her a name that looks and sounds as beautiful as i think she is .

I love Arabella Felicity Octavia, with her being your eighth child, such a lovely way of marking that.

Arabella Felicity Octavia would be my favourite, followed by Arabella Felicity Cecilia.

Cecilia sounds much better than Cecily, with Felicity.

I don't think you need four first names unless you're a member of the Royal Family, two or three are enough.

I don't like Matilda or Martha.

all the other dcs have 3 names. it happened with dc1 who was very poorly at birth , we had 2 names picked for her but at her emergency baptism added a name meaning protected by god .so have continued the tradition with the other dcs .to only give dd4 her two after all the trouble we've had already with changing her name in the first place would only add to the guilt i already feel .i really don't want her to feel as number 8 she's been short changed etc and we couldn't be bothered .

as regards forms we're used to filling in 3 names on forms for the other dcs anyway and it doesn't happen that often.

4 names is definitely ott and does feel as if we'd have to be spanish and /or minor royalty to carry it off.

have ruled out martha as it doesnt fell quite right .we have therefore narrowed it down to a choice between
arabella felicity cecilia
arabella felicity octavia
arabella felicity matilda

I'd go with just two - if she wanted to take her DH's surname on marriage and keep her surname as a middle name or double barrel then you are leaving her "space" to do that. Otherwise use Octavia.

Is this still going on? Wink

I remember the threads from when you were pregnant! There have been several more iirc. I'd have given up by now and called her Joan. Grin

Any of the three you've narrowed it down to are fine. Octavia has a lovely meaning if that swings it at all.

If all your other DCs have three names then it would make sense to have three this time too. Love Octavia and the 8 meaning.

In order of preference...

  1. Arabella Felicity Octavia
  2. Arabella Felicity Cecilia
  3. Arabella Felicity Matilda

You need a shorter third name, like Grace, a single syllable I think to offset the other two.

Oh sorry - bloody hell you have 8 kids! In that case not a better opportunity or reason to use Octavia. Hope this resolves your feelings & you can move on.

showofhand yes it's still going on . it's been an epic . we could have named every star in the solar system in the time it's taken to name this poor little mite .we named all the other dcs either prior to or within minutes of birth, not sure quite where we got confused this time but stuck we have been .
now to send off the name change form and i promise will leave this board in peace ,well untill dc9 arrives Smile

maryz i tried that particular form of blackmail this time with cecily and it failed miserably . not sure what we'll do if dc9 is ds5 cecil doesn't have quite the same appeal as cecilia .

Arabella Felicity is fine - nothing more is needed. You are seriously over-thinking this, you know! :)

If you are set on 3 names I would choose Matilda x

And I think Arabella is really nice x

Octavia goes best and I think is most appropriate. Save Cecily for no. 9 :-) And don't feel guilt over this - I let others bully me out of my name choices twice and I can totally understand how it is hard to accept the other name you didn't like - I still sometimes feel pangs for the child I feel I never had - because the name I had called the baby throughout the pregnancy got taken away.

Choose the version you feel happiest with. Your daughter is so little it won't matter to her. :-)

flying that's almost how i feel that cecily my name for dd as a bump and the name dp had agreed to until he discussed it with pils was almost taken from me
definitely think we'll go for octavia although grace is aclose second

I would just call her Arabella Felicity
IMO it's an absolutely beautiful classic name and enough
Cecily on the end is too much
Good luck

I love the Octavia meaning - and this is pretty much the only circumstances you could really use it.I remember your threads from before she was born too.

I can't believe you have chosen 24 names altogether! It was hard enough picking 2 for our DD.

Would love to know what some of the other names are

i'm going to go for anne as third name after weird dream tonight in which a letter arrived addressed to me .when i opened it there was a card and on it was written the name anne . strangely i hadn't even been thinking of names and had accepted we'd just leave her birth cert as it was.
arabella felicity anne feels so right i can't see why i didn't see it before.leaves her the option of having annie/anna or even afa as a nn when she's older

anne meaning favoured by God has such a positive meaning , i just know it's right
