Baby names

Please help me to shorten my not-so-shortlist!

Due in a matter of weeks and clueless for names. I don't want a nameless baby!

We already have a George and a Harrison. Our surname is Fox.

We don't know the sex, so two lists to shorten!

Sebastian
Freddie
Oscar
Archie
William
Thomas
Stanley
Noah

Gracie
Phoebe
Matilda
Florence
Madeleine
Eleanor
Evelyn
Elizabeth
Charlotte
Poppy

Suggestions also welcome as none of these really standing out for me, however, ideally I would like to end up with just a couple to choose from!

Sebastian Fox sounds like a film star to me just like your other too. Great surname!

Matilda - drippy, dislike

greenzebra - I know, we get that alot, although it means I can't have some names. I love Rosie for a girl, but Rosie Fox just doesn't sound right!

Sebastian
Noah

Matilda
Eleanor

Or how about

Peter

Arabella
Rosa
Miranda

FanellaFox · 21/03/2011 11:05

Like Rosa - but like Rosie it makes me think of a blushing Fox!

FanellaFox I can see if could be a problem, Strong names do go best with that kind of surname.

I like matilda

would love to use this name but already have ours picked, maybe will save matilda for the next one.

What about Rosalie?

Sebastian - nice.
Freddie - Fred Fox sounds like a children's cartoon character.
Oscar - nice, we were going to name DD Oscar if she was a boy.
Archie - there are five Archie's in DD's year group of 54. That's roughly one in five of the boys are called Archie.
William - nice.
Thomas - nice
Stanley - nice
Noah - nice

Gracie - our DD's name, it is however annoyingly popular at the mo.
Phoebe
Matilda
Florence - Flo Fox?
Madeleine
Eleanor
Evelyn
Elizabeth
Charlotte
Poppy

Personally, I'm a fan of the proper name on the birth certificate, shortened for everything else approach (DD is actually called Grace but everyone calls her Gracie, so we got that the wrong way round!).

Sorry - I meant all the other girl's names were nice!

FanellaFox · 21/03/2011 11:31

Rosalie - that's lovely, my list appears to be growing. I also like Isobel...which I forgot to add!

BristolJim - You're right about Fred Fox! You've confirmed my worries about Archie and Grace, I had a feeling they might be popular. I love Olivia but it's just too popular. Flo Fox - is that good or bad? I always think the name on the birth certificate should be the name you intend to use, which is why if we used Freddie, it would be Freddie and not Fredrick on the birth certificate.

I have middle names sorted, Jeoffrey and Ann... so I guess the name should fit with those names also.

I like all your boys names except for Oscar (I find it poncey), and Stanley (old man's name)

With your girls names, I don't like Gracie (I just think greasy), or Matilda (I know its very popular at the moment, but I just dont like it), or Poppy (too cutesy).

My favourites of your names are Thomas and Phoebe.

Stan and, v sorry, but I don't like any of your girl names. Elizabeth if I had to choose but, honestly, the rest of your girls names list reads like a roll call of ds's Year 2 class.

I'm London.

I like Rosalie.

What about Rosa? that's lovely.

FanellaFox · 21/03/2011 11:53

Rosa Fox. Makes me think of a Fox doing Blush that. Plus I think with such a short surname and middle name we need a longer first name?

I LOVE Isobel and that's my favourite way to spell it. Also I love Naomi, but can't use it myself Sad.
.
From your girls list I like Madeleine, Poppy and Eleanor. Also love Noah from boys list.

I know a 10 yr old Florence who is called Florence by her family, and Flo by all her friends. I think it's inevitable that most of the names you have chosen will be shortened.

I was always told that Harrison would get Harry as soon as he started school, but he's still Harrison. I actually asked him the other day if prefers Harry but he is adament that he will always be Harrison Grin.

I think my favourites so far are Sebastion and Florence.
