Lorna/Lorcan

Hello, would like your opinions on these names

Lorna for a girl

or

Lorcan for a boy


like Irish/Scottish names as I am of Irish descent and hubby is Scottish.

Middle names - Lorna Grace, Lorna Beth, Lorna Jeane or Lorna Maeve

Lorcan Ross, Lorcan Oisin or Lorcan Alasdair


Thanks for any opinions - other names which fit our criteria also welcome!

I don't like Lorcan at all but if it is important to you why not have it second? Alasdair Lorcan?

I love Lorna but have been put off slightly by the lack of a meaning. Aside from the Lorna Doone reference, does it have one?

As for meanings, yes it does seem t have been "invented" for the novel, however it is apparently widely regarded as the feminine of Lorne which is considered sort of a scottish form of Lawrence, and is after the Firth of Lorne - which is a lovely place. So I suppose we could take meaning from that?!

Hubby now says he think Lorna might be a bit "middle aged." Whatever that means. I think as you said, it is quite unusual and not middle-aged mumsy at all. Hmm. what do you think?

Have little opinionon Lorcan. Prefer Lachlann, or Logan.

I really like Lorna and Lorcan - lovely sounds, esp with an irish or scottish accent, and both unusual but not batty.

I don't really like like Lorna, but Lorcan is fab - I know one and he's a lovely little boy. I predict spelling issues with Lachlann.

Lorna is not middle aged, it is lovely. Like it with Grace as middle name.
Not sure about Lorcan at all.

I really like Lorna. I know of quite a few my age (30s) but no wee ones. Only 5 babies were called Lorna in Scotland last year (I do love the Scottish babies' names lists )

No real opinion about Lorcan, but I like Lachlan.

I was a bit surprised that no baby boys were named Lorne, but then I remembered the popularity of Lorne sausage... might work better out of Scotland.

Not sure about Lorcan, don't dislike it though. I think it's a name that could grow on you. Nick name could be Lory.
