What do you think?

I like it. But I can't use that initial with our surname. Given ds's current love of all things train related, I think he'd be in raptures if his name really was Thomas. I'm made to call him it on a regular basis Grin

Not for me (not sure why, might be that bloody tank engine)

but I really like Tom!

I have a Thomas and I love it! Some of his school friends call him Tom. I think it's a good old classic plus it was his grandfathers name.

PepsiPopcorn · 08/03/2011 14:32

I like it. Nice classic name.

Bump will def be Thomas if he is a DS!

Who cares if it is popular - it's a great name.

Thomas is ok. I like Tom though, and Tommy.

I like all -y sounding names at the moment: Tommy, Billy, Jimmy, Sonny...

BarbieLovesKen · 08/03/2011 15:04

I love Sonny but DH says no way - apparantly its a favourite amongst Irish travellers Hmm (??!!)

I don't have one (so am not biased Smile) and think Thomas/Tom is ok - quite common round here and perhaps a little dull.

I prefer Tom to Thomas. Tom is the name my DH is really pushing for. I'm still dithering, but if we go for it, I'd like the baby to have a bit more of a funky middle name! Again, its the train thing that gets me...

We have one too - and even though it's always said to be common, because of the variants (Tom, Tommy, Thomas) it can still feel 'yours' imo. We have always used Thom (cf Thom Yorke from Radiohead Grin) - in a poncy attempt to create a little bit of differentiation.

We have a Thomas and the name suits him totally. I still love his name just as much as when we chose it. He gets Tom-Tom as a nickname Smile

It's a great name, I like it shortened to Tom. Yes, popular, but for a good reason. All the Toms I know are delighted to be associated with T the TE!

Tommy for me Smile

Mine's a Tommy!

pamelat · 10/03/2011 20:47

One of the best boys names out there. We couldnt use it because of our surname.

supadupapupascupa · 10/03/2011 20:48

I also have a Thomas. He is nicknamed;
Tom
Tom-Tom
Tommy
Tomcui (polish version of tommy I think)
Tombliboos

I love how versatile it is, and we have had absolutely no association with the train as yet....
We like the fact that people can call him what they like (and people will do this anyway) and we like all the variations.

I have a Tom.

Annoyingly people call him Thomas at times, despite me never referring to him as such Hmm

Apart from that small niggle I love it. Popular for a good reason I say.

His nn is either

Tom Tom

or

Tomathan (because of his brother's name)

Thanks again all!. Really think we're going to "go" with Thomas - the tank engine thing doesnt bother me in the slightest.

It might not be as "out there" as some, however it is versitile and you can be prime minister, a solicitor or a rock star with the name and its variations. I love it and you can go more wacky with a middle name if you want to, it is classic but also modern whilst I don't think it dates either. Its a good choice Grin and I have one. Leave wacky to the girls names (dd has one which you either love of hate but am not revealing!)
