No I think of Flora MacDonald and Bonnie Prince Charlie-but then I am scottish!

I love the name Fleur also but know other people will struggle with pronouncing it !
I think Flora is cute!

I love it, and I didn't think of the marg until you mentioned it!

Hi Mendip!

I LOVE it and am considering it this time. I haven't had the best feedback from the thread I started but it's still on my list! What else are you considering?

Hope all is good with your new lovely DD! Smile

I really like it but I had a Great Aunty Flora so I think that means I'm biased.
DH vetoed it along with most of my other suggestions.

I think its lovely. I don't think of marg, but of the goddess, and I think children of your DD's generation would be even less likely to make the marg connection as Flora is not such a dominant brand as back in the day.

Didn't realise there were to many threads on this name already. Sorry!
Hi evian. Thought we had decided on this name and have only just thought of the marg connotation. I really love it. Just hot home from hospital. All going well so far x

I love it and would absolutely choose it for this one had DH not vetoed it on account of the margarine connection.

Some people make that connection, which I think has stopped it rocketing in popularity. I don't think anyone from our children's generation will.

It's a beautiful, beautiful name. I would definitely go for it.

Congratulations on your new baby Smile.

My DD is a Flora Smile. No margarine by that name in France!

Margerine connection in my mind too, but that's probably only because we use that spread in our house.

Report
ShowOfHands · 23/02/2011 19:26

Spreads easily. Grin

I love it and if I have another dd, it will be her middle name. It's lovely and bugger the margarine.

Oh please use it, it is BEAUTIFUL!! Had DS been a boy he would probably have been Flora but we had exactly the same dilemma - all other family members hated it and warned us of the 'spreads easily' jokes. We may have chickened out in the end and used our 2nd chocie of Freya but Flora was and is always my favourite. In the end we named the goldfish Flora instead :o

I also justified it to myself that by the time the baby was old enoguh to be the butt of such jokes, the brand may have been discontinued anyway.

It's gorgeous. But what about the margarine? Do you think you can bring her up confident enough to brush it off in the playground?

I love Flora, and it was on my shortlist, but I'm afraid I've been put off by several really negative threads/posts on here about it.
