Makes me think of birds of prey, sorry!

Theodore, Dieter, Ivan and Jonas all mean gift too Grin

I knew a family at school who had this as a surname.

It's awful for a first name! What about something similar, but less "claw" related. Callan? That's Irish.

ive heard worse, think its alright

reminds me of a mate at college who wanted to name all his kids after animals.
Wolf, fox, wren, hawk. I bet he never thought of tallon

Is it actually pronounced as seen? If so, I'm afraid I dislike it for the reasons others have given above.

I just think Claw and I speak as someone very familiar with Irish names.

Report
FreudianSlippery · 31/01/2011 12:22

Not too keen personally, because of the claw thing.

I'm guessing you'd like a fairly unusual name, so here's a few

Warwick
Reeve
Eoin
Rafferty

There's a Tallen in my DH's family. Was a bit weird to start with and people always ask you to repeat it but I've got used to it over the years.

Erm, that would be a no from me. There is a Tarin in ds's class though not keen on that either probably cos he's a handful and his mum is orange. No help from me there then Blush.

Another alternative, although it's Welsh rather than Irish, is Taliesin.
