Darwin

DH is trying to convince me to use Darwin if we have a boy. Half of me quite likes it! Is it usable?

never heard of anyone using Darwin as a first name but love it, Do it, do it!

(and then have 2 more boys, Huxley and Dawkins )

I really like it, surprising myself, as usually I hate unusual names for boys.
I don't know why it works tbh, but it does.

I'm not sure about the fact that it is so obviously a surname and it is a bit poncey!

I love it. DP is set on calling a son by that name,if and when we have one.

We're both science geeks,though that it's a city in his favourite country is another reason why it appeals to him.
I'm not entirely sure if I'd use it,but it's a lovely name.

Really? It is a surname, not a first name and - worse - it is the kind of name they use for 'houses' in private schools.

My cousin named her son Darwin..I love it!

One of our neighbours has a son called Darwin, or Winnie for short. My first reaction was that it was a very odd name, but I've come round to liking it - it works well as a name I think, even if it's not typically used as a first name.

Charles Darwin/Missing link etc...it wouldn't bother me.

I like Darwin - classic, easy to spell & pronounce and not overused. Whats not to like?

I like it. It might cause you a problem if you ever needed to get into one of those christian schools everyone is so desperate to get into later on.

I love it! I have been considering having another baby just so I can use this name ever since last year's Radio 4 thing about Darwin (new edition of Origin I think, with decent notes)

Love it. I generally dislike last names as first names, but this works for me. It sounds ace. We're considering using it for a middle name (mainly because we're both big atheists). Don't think it's poncey.

People do use names that are surnames/city names - e.g. Preston, which doesn't even have any illustrious connotations.

It does work as a name, but - even though I'm a great admirer of Charles Darwin - I don't think I'd use it as a first name because it is perhaps a bit too loaded. As a middle name, great.

I think it does sound ok, but I think it has too strong connotations. It could cause unseen problems in the future with strongly opinioned people! Too much of a risk for the child.

I don't like surnames as first names as a rule, but I make an exception for Darwin - love it.
