Baby names

Very upset

More or less since I got pregnant my husband and I have been decided on George for a boy. We haven't told anyone as think it adds to the surprise at the end. I know it's hardly original but I thought it was unlikely to be used by people we know before bub is born. No such luck. My best friend's sister has used it and although she's not part of my everyday life my circle of friends will all be aware of the fact that our George came second. I feel like a seed of doubt has been planted and that I'll have to explain again and again that we had the name picked out from the beginning. I know this is a relatively ridiculous thing to get upset about but for us it's always been George for a boy and now it just doesn't feel special. Hope I don't come across as a total moron - I really do have more important things to be worried about - it's just it's really upset me and I'm not sure what to do. Any advice appreciated.

go ahead if you really like the name.

Tell them it's a family name. Even if it isn't.

why would you need to explain again and again? who's going to be harassing you for an explanation? chances are people will not be arsed.

True - people really won't be arsed. It's still really upset me though. Was actually sobbing earlier. Husband pointed out that we're very lucky to have a seemingly healthy baby on the way and that the name is irrelevant but for me it's part of the excitement if that makes sense?

you might not be having a george anyway...

we thought we were having a Cora then she came out and I knew she was a Rose.

Was Rose on your 'list' or a last minute inspiration?

George is a fairly popular, classic name. I'm sure most of us know more than one George. If you like it, use it :)

pull yourself together. It's your best friend's sister, not your sister, not even your beest friend.

I don't want to sound mean but George is v.popular, there will probably be at least 3 others in your DS-to-be's school! If u like it stick with it - BTW my mum chose my name and told a friend, same thing happened to her Smile

I do need to pull myself together. It was ludicrous the think that I was safe with such a popular name. It's just taken the shine off it a bit. Well, a lot actually.

originality, name-wise is often ever-rated...

george is a nice name but you shouldn't decide definitively anyway before your baby is born. once you've met him, you'll have a better idea.

It's a popular name. I don't think anyone will notice it's the same as your friend's sister's baby. If the name had been more unusual, then maybe you'd have to explain. But there are loads of George's about.

(I have one. He is named after George from Peppa Pig.)

Arrghh, really sorry about the apostrophe. Don't know what happened there.

Aw- it's your hormones!

If you hadn't divulged, at least you can't think they've done it on purpose (as others have had in the past!)

Wait till he arrives- you'll know his name when you see his little face.

Thanks CaptainNancy. I hope so :)

you're being silly.

George is ridiculously popular, and like you say, it's your friend's sister... not even anyone in your social circle

so use it and don't think about it

George is lovely. Your DH sounds great.
Good luck with your impending arrival.
