Hi, I'm due in 6 weeks and we have changed our minds a million times (it seems) Grin

We seem to go around in circles with our choices! Our DD1 is called Valentina, so maybe bear that in mind too.

Our choices are:

Charis- a favourite of ours throughout
Tamsin- we both quite like
Nova- has a native american link to our family and I think it sounds nice
Saffron- we just think it's pretty
Victoria- my husband loves this name, I'm not too keen

Which one do you like best? Are any names terrible?
Thanks!

(be warned, I'm in a grump tonight so feel free to ignore me Grin)

Charis - No. Terrible.
Tamsin - pretty
Nova - Sort of like this one
Saffron - pretty
Victoria - Not bad.

Charis.

By a country mile.

I love Charis -- beautiful name.
Tamsin is sweet, but have sen suggestions here on Baby Names that it's a bit close to 'tampon'.
Nova -- not keen.
Saffron -- very nice, a flower related name, and unusual.
Victoria -- nice, but you might not like Vicky or Vic as nns.

I would choose Charis.

Charis - Not to my taste
Tamsin - Ok
Nova - Love, love, love (goes great with your DD1).
Saffron - Bit meh.
Victoria - Nice, but Valentina and Victoria sound a bit twee.

Showofbloodystumps- do you mean Charis is your favourite out of all of them?

I really like Saffron. Friend has Carys, and people just ask all time if Cerys; could be annoying.

Victoria is my favourite with Tory as a nn. Personally not keen on your other choices (but think that Valentina is really beautiful).

Tamsin then Victoria (but Tory as a nn is hideous imho for obvious reasons :) )

Nova and Saffron are awful, sorry.

I like Charis very much.
Tamsin- not keen
Nova- sorry just think of Vauxhalls
Saffron- is ok but only just
Victoria- good 'solid' name, but agree with BloodyBoris- a bit twee with Valentina.

I don't think many of them go with Valentina, which has a Russian feel to me.

I would be tempted with Elena or Helena.

I like Saffron.

Nova is a car.

Do you like Natalia? NN Talia or Tally?

My order of preference (taking into account DD1's name) would be
Tamsin (favourite)
Saffron (close 2nd)
Charis
Victoria (don't think it would work with DD1's name)
Nova (sorry, just don't like it and makes me think of a Vauxhall Nova!)

Yes, Charis is pronounced "Karis" to rhyme with Paris. It's a Greek name meaning grace (different from Carys which is Welsh meaning love). We prefer the Greek spelling.

Ok, I think Nova and Victoria can be scratched now.....

Charis, Saffron and Tamsin are still in the running.

I think I'd go for Charis then - if it's been a favourite for both of you throughout, then it's a winner. That's sort of how we ended up with ours.

Charis is gorgeous and stands up very well beside Valentina. They each have their own character but they're each elegant and classic names.

People are going to assume it pronounced Ch-Aris. Carys is lovely, is there something about the spelling you don't like?
I would say Carys, Victoria then Tamsin... I'm afraid i don't like the others.
Can Charis be spent without the h?

Now you've said Charis is said as Carys, that's my fave of the 3 still left in the running.

Report
usualsuspect · 29/10/2010 20:10

Charis I love it, but the one I know is spelt Carys

Report
Guacamole · 29/10/2010 20:19

A slight aside, but when I type Charis into my iPhone it 'autocorrects' to chairs?????
Yes I agree with all the other posters who said Charis is their favourite... I guess people would only pronounce it wrongly the first time, once she corrected them it would be pronounced correctly from then on.
