Barney/Barnaby

DH has suggested this for DS2. I think I like them but not sure. What are your thoughts please?

Prefer Barney but then have known a couple of lovely ones which always gives a bias!

Barney. I think Barnaby could be quite tricky for a toddler to say, and that would be a pity.

Barnaby is a big traditional name in Yorkshire. I know barnabys from 90 to new born. It is a farming name- after the place.

I like that, Barnaby with Barney and Bee as nns. Hmm, he has actually come up with something useable. I was very sold on Rufus but he has backed out of that one, sadly.

Someone I know has a boyfriend called Barnaby. He is called Barn and for YEARS I thought he was caalled Brian as it sounds so similar.

I have a Barney,who is 5 months now.I wanted George but DH got his own way and I'm really happy with it now as there aren't that many around.We call him Barney B or Barney Buble as a NN.

I like Barnaby but I dislike Barney rubble. It's one of those names which sounds a tiny bit pompous in full but the shortening is really goofy sound. I like Barnaby though.

Barnaby is a great name.

You can associate any name with other things. I wouldn't let that bother you unless it's the name of your dh's first love or something significant like that.

I love the name Barnaby, I know one who would be called Barney for a nickname. So you can get away without having to make a proper decision on which one you prefer.

Ha Winky, I don't think it is DH's first love's name, though I could ask. I am not familiar with any of the characters which are coming up (except Rubble of course, and thats a bit old for any future generations I imagine). I am starting to like it more and more

I don't like either of them personally, I think Barney sounds too much like a nickname for a full name and Barnaby sounds a bit too posh or unusual.

How about Benedict? Another lovely name.
