hiya,

which one would you prefer?

we are looking for a middle name.

as first name will be a bit unusual (not really decided yet but something turkish)I actually would like to have a less unusual middle name. i love athena but think helena might be a better option with an uncommon first name, IYSWIM.

thanks for any opinions!

athena makes me think of the 80s poster shop (but I am old!)

Helena

Athena is a shop. Or was.

Depends on the first name I think!

Not keen on Athena, but love Helena. Only thing that would put me off is pronunciation: The whole Hel-AY-nuh; Helen-uh; Hel-EE-nuh thing. I love Hel-AY-nuh, don't find the other two as pretty.

As already said..Athena..a poster shop that went out of business in the 90's. Stick to Helena.

Helena is a beautiful name, Athena is either a poster shop or the local day Spa around the corner from where I live!

Helena. I know of someone called Helleni which is a Greek variation and very pretty.

I remember the poster shop, but I'd have thought of the Goddess first. :) Athena.

Hi there,

Thought I'd play devil's advocate and put a positive spin on Athena. "Athena" means 'wise' and there's a successful women's business network called 'Athena'. We called our daughter Artemis, also a greek name. Different is good.

Not sure that Helena and Athena, being Greek middle names, go with a Turkish first name, but they are both very nice names.

Oh I like Athena. I'm an 80's child and I'd forgotten about the old poster shop and everyone else will probably forget in time too. Your child's friends wont even know it existed.

I loved Greek myths and Athena in that context comes to my mind when I hear the name.

Helena nice too but I only like it pronounced Hel-ay-nuh

I also like Athena a lot and I know the poster shop but that was long ago and hardly ruins what is a beautiful and interesting name.

Also, along the same lines, I really love the name Delphi.

I like Athena -- loads of positive connotations and the poster shop is long gone.
