Audrey?
Ethel?
Winifred/Winnie?
Isobel?
Jeanne?
Joan?

I'm thinking of my grandmothers and great aunts. Grin

Great! I was thinking Victorian parlourmaid...

Jean / Joan truly untouchable though! I do like Winifred...

I think of the 'old lady' names these 2 (Edith & Agnes) are probably the ugliest sounding.

Martha
Matilda
Florence
Daisy

But I love Edie... Think Edie Brickell...

Yes, Joan is pushing the boundaries! Grin

I have funny feeling that Audrey is about to become really popular, so you may or may not be swayed by that.

Winifred is a good, strong name.

The first three on your list are on my list! But I've been losing heart with it all recently...

Love Edie (Edith on birth cert). Quite like Agnes - surprising for me as I usually loathe with a passion prim old lady names.

Talking of old lady names, Beatrice, Constance and Mabel are the worst offenders and scream aspirational middle class London set to me.

I like the sound sof Edith.

Agnes is just awful. So clumsy and stompy sounding.

Agatha
Dulcie
Maude
Mabel

Love Agnes and Edith too

No, I just think 'Edie McCreadie'!

How about Esme, very similar sound but somehow much softer and prettier.

I LOVE Edith (Edie for short). Much less keen on Agnes - sounds like a terrifying granny!

Definitely warming to Edith / Edie... thanks all!

Edith is really pretty. And Edie is a lovely shortening.

Agnes has the unfortunate potential for Aggie which I don't think is nice at all.

I agree that Audrey might well become popular soon. Ditto Joan.

I like, in a similar vein,

Emmeline
Sylvia
Esther
Elspeth (Elsie)
Harriet
Faith
Frances

I love Edith/Edie. Hester is really cool Grin. I know no-one in the world agrees with me, but I do actually like Dorcas.

Not a fan of old-lady names...Agnes is my DM's name and she hates it.

Like both of these a lot, especially Edith (and Edie)

I love Agnes! I know a little one who goes by Nessie, which is sweet, and one of 8 ish who goes by Aggie.
I really like this style of name - we have Mary, Jean, Enid on our list for dc5.
Not so keen on Edith.
I agree with pp about Audrey - is lovely and have a feeling its popularity will soar soon.

I really like Edith but Agnes harsh imo. AgggNusss. You could force people to pronounce it with a French accent though! Do you think that you can do that??

Love the suggestion of Dulcie. Lois is lovely too, a little like Agnes but softer.

For HDD2 I love

Frances
Winifred
Audrey
