Daisy?

Right, I think this is it. After months of umming and aahing we've found a name we love.

But I have two reservations:

  1. Is it too much 'of the moment'? Personally I know it has been around for decades, but will it date her dob almost exactly to now due to the flower-name revival going on?

  1. Is it a suitable name for a grownup? Could she be dr. Daisy, CEO Daisy or postwoman Daisy?

I think the other option is to call her Margot and have daisy as a nickname which family at least will call her but she can revert back to Margot for official purposes. Or would that be too confusing? Confused aarrghh tying myself in knots here!!!

I think Daisy is nice for a small girl and can be less appropriate for a woman.

I think Margot is infinitely preferable to Daisy.

Grin I like your thinking. I have a Margaret who is 99% of the time known as Daisy. Some people think it is a bit odd but stuff them. Daisy is her nickname and at the moment (22 months old) it suits her well though I can see her turning into a Meg as she gets a little bit older.

This from wikipedia:

"The name Daisy is therefore ultimately derived from this source a synonym for the Sun. Daisy is also a nickname for Margaret, used because Marguerite, the French version of that name, is also a French name for the oxeye daisy.[2]"

So you can tell people who think it's odd that it is in fact rooted in history Indith! Grin

I love daisy- my friends daughter is 20 now and called daisy.

She is always smiling ( at oxford or Cambridge- all the same)

Margot is the nutty woman in the good life

Oh I know, my mum is French and Marguerite is one of her middle names which in turn was given to her for another relative. In our grandparent's time Daisy was a very common nickname for Margaret so it doesn't seem at all odd to any of the old ladies in our village but it took my sister (who like me is fluent in French) ages to work it out Hmm.

Obviously I think it is a great idea, you just have to be prepared for the "why didn't you just call her Daisy?" comments. I just see it a shortening like any other.

I love Daisy and it's on our shortlist. I am sure there is a serious newsreader called Daisy and it doesn't sound odd on her!

I have a Daisy who is 17 months old and I love it!! Its very girly and pretty which I like, but won't float everyones boat. Personally I don't get naming a baby something you have no intention of calling her...i.e Margot. You can't be Daisy for 20 years and then decide to be called Margot. Well you can, but its a bit odd.

Daisy is a name in its own right, has been around for donkeys. FWIW I know of a 24 year old Daisy and it so suits her.

Good luck

Love it - one of my dds has it as one of her names. MUCH nicer than Margot. Margaret/Meg/Daisy combo is nice.

The latin name for daisy is something like 'bellis perenis' (forgive spelling!) which means FOREVER BEAUTIFUL.
Its a lovely name and will age on a day by day basis with your child, there will never be a day when it suddenly doesn't suit her. I think it is a lovely hame for a woman too.

I think it's too cutesy and very of the moment along with Molly, Ruby etc. I like it as a middle name though.

bundle - I read that as Bell Penis!
