I actually like them both a lot, although for personal family reasons slightly prefer Joseph.

Personally prefer Joseph but both are v.popular round these parts!

Both too popular for me. But I prefer Joseph as I don't like Josh/Joshi.

Prefer Joseph as well.

Joseph but prefer Jonah. Or Jeremiah. Much more original imo.

Joseph, but then I'm biased as I have one! In my teaching experience there are quite a few 'challenging' Joshuas around, so it puts me off personally!

Joshua, with Josh as nn.

Not keen on either, I'm afraid. Not keen on Josh/Joshi, so would have to choose Joe/Joseph.

Do like Jeremiah though.

I have a Joseph (Joe mostly) - is quite popular in these parts (almost too popular for me, but he's named after DH's father).

I prefer it to Joshua - mainly because it seems a bit more timeless to me - there are many Josephs of all ages, but I feel Joshuas tend to be of a certain age (under 25, I'd say) - so would think it might date a little.

Of course, I could be talking rubbish :).

thereisalight Have you thought of a name for the brother of your Joseph yet? I'm still no nearer to a name for the brother of mine!(Sorry to threadbut here answer on original one if this is really bad thread manners). Joseph just such a lovely name, can't find one I like as much!

Nope.

We still have a shortlist of:

Patrick (DH's nephew)
Angus (our cat)
Hamish (DS1's middle name)

And can agree on nothing else and have found nothing else.

Joseph is a good name.

I'm not playing any more :(

Nice shortlist though. I know a lovely Hamish.
I think we will go with Tom.
You must always play!

I like either but probably slightly prefer Joshua.

Thanks sleepyhorse - all fine names - I would personally avoid any name beginning with 'O' as our surname is Irish - and it would sound like ' O'Fxxxxx' (that's not a rude word - our surname begins with 'F').

And they are popular - but I mind a bit less for boys than I do for girls for some reason - however, I do know quite a few Noahs, Charlies and Georges...

And bundlebelly - I think Tom is a lovely name - DH really likes it. Not quite sure how it's not on our shortlist...

Joseph is my preference. Every Tom Dick and Harry is called Joshua these days Grin

Joseph - Joe will not date as much as Joshua is likely to.

Joshua. DS's name and I still love it. Don't care how 'common' it is.

I will not let anyone call him Joshy though!!!
