I'm really not a fan of Cain AT ALL but DH mentioned Kane and curiously I think I might like it even though it sounds the same as Cain.

What do you think of Kane?

Noooooooooo! I'm sorry, but - step away from the name.

I have to say, Cain is one of very few names where the negative connotations would put me off completely.
Your child is going to be lovely and precious and it seems a bit odd to name him after the world's first murderer. Murdered his brother no less (and I'm not a Christian).

Plus everyone would spell it Cain I'm afraid, seems like you're just trying to make it different.

Cole?
Cale?

Cain/Kane - same thing really. When you say his name, people won't be able to hear the spelling. They'll hear Cain and think of all the negative connotations.

I have taught two boys called Kane and they were both REALLY naughty, it is not a name I would choose.

Not keen. Cain or Kane, just sounds like a baddie to me.

What about:

Keir / Kieran
Aidan
Flynn

Corporal punishment.

Drug dealer in Kent named his child Cain, after the 'product' - made the papers.

Murderer

For all the above, step away. Dh got pg hormones too?

Reminds me of corporal punishment.

Conn is nice. (Irish nn for Cornelius)

It's not one I'd choose; I've taught two Kanes too and both were memorable for all the wrong reasons.

I've never taught a Cain though!

No. Just no.
I do quite like Cain although it isn't a name I'd normally pick. Then again the only Cain I know is the sweetest boy I know so there is none of the negative connotations with me!

I know two Kanes. Both from not the best backgrounds to be honest. I think that Kane is in the "if I change the C to a K it will be really cool" school of thinking.

Cain just has terrible connotations.

Very biblical.
Also, didn't he lose his right to rule to his brother? Unlucky fellow :)

Another teacher here - I've taught several Kanes, all very naughty and difficult.

Not a nice name

Prefer Esau but that's not great either.

If you want an old testament name what about Abel, Abraham or Jonah?

Oh not Kane, good idea to think again. I knew someone who named his children Kane Kyle and Kaytee (on purpose to get the three Ks) and he has put me off most "K" names of that kind for life.
Esau makes me think hairy too, sorry.
