Finn - popular?

DH loves Finn and I'm not sure as think it's really popular and DS would always be one of many at school.

Am I right and what do you reckon?

I love Jasper, Oscar and Miles still - Ahhhhhhhhh!

it depends where you are...... i'm in central scotland and whilst i have come across 'finns', i don't actually know any (although know a couple of finlays)

I LOVE it - it was our name for dd had she been a boy...

In Ireland Finn is an abbreviated version of Finbar (sometimes also abb. to Barry). It's up to you, but I love Oscar.

fwiw you just cant predict what names are going to be in his class. i loved the name heidi which is extremely uncommon around here, yet dd has a heidi in her new school nursery group ( and so i guess will have in her year group, if not class, the whole way through school...)

Oscar is very popular... only know 2 finns at a school of about 250 primary kids... (half are girls though!)

I didn't say that popular was bad. Popular names are popular for a reason. I didn't give a flying fig about popularity and/or other people's opinions when naming dd. I picked the name as a child.

The OP was concerned about popularity and as others have attested that depending on where you live, every other baby might be a Finn (I know 2 Finlays, a Finbar, 2 Finegans a Finn and a Fin).

Anyway, I like Finn, and only know of one, who is 5, and his actual name is Fintan (Irish)

Its not just Finbar in Ireland, I should know, I have a Finian! And there are a lot of baby Finn's here, not many older ones though.

I have to say my BiL just had a baby called Finn and its very cute... although I had an Oscar in january - so I prefer that!

Disgustingly popular was an affectation. I just meant popular. Nowt wrong with Finn. I really like it. Is a fine name. I may have said ridiculously popular or alarmingly popular. I still would have meant the same thing.

My DD has a poular name. She is the only one in her class though!

There are 17 pictures on my profile, 3 have 'Mathilda' written next to them. You will note that they were baby pictures. That was her given name on her birth certificate for very good reasons. It is not the name she is known by or has been known by for the last 3 and a half years.

DH is Irish (although now live in South West London) so would be looking for an Irish variation of it but know that it would become Finn which is why I am wondered how popular it is.
