Jarvis?

We want something unusual but not made-up and its a family name (albeit a surname that has died due to a long line of daughters). But I have no idea if it has any associations except Jarvis Cocker and Ramada Jarvis etc.

I like Lucinda for a girl too. Any views/association on this that I dont know about?

I think it is a great name and is something we would consider if we were to ever have another - Jarvis that is.

Very Cocker, but maybe that would fade.

Lucinda is lovely, can't think of any bad connotations.

Jarvis is horrible as a first name. Lucinda is okay.

I do love Mr Cocker with a passion, but I'm afraid that's all I'd think about if I met someone called Jarvis. And I think that's probably true of a lot of people.

Lucinda is nice - but may well become Cindy. Could you live with Cindy?

I started a thread a few months back regarding the name Jarvis!

We have decided on it if we have a boy. I think it will definately divide opinions, but I think it's great!

Perhaps this is the start of a revival :-)

Oooo I love Jarvis. The name and the man Grin

I agree with hassled that most people our age will associate the name with Mr Cocker but:
a) it's a good association as Jarvis is fantastic
b) most people under 16 probably don't know who he is

It just makes me think of Newman & Baddiel's character Jarvis - I found him hilarious in the 90s but if I met someone called Jarvis that's all I would be able to think about

"You were expecting me to ....... , I disappointed you, and that turns me on".

I would guess only people who were students in the 90s would think that though....

I don't like it at all but names are such a personal thing - you should use it if you like it.

Ha ha - I said about 'Jarvisy Warvisy' in his smoking jacket on Newman and Baddiel and my husband said....only people who were students in the 90s (like us) would think of that.

Rob Newman Mmmmm

Lucinda is a great name, I used to think it was really posh. I have a friend whose nickname is Cinders, I find that a bit Walt Disney so call her Lucinda.
