We have one name for a boy - George - and are finding it hard to widen the scope. I love that it's a classic name but I always wanted our children to have classic names that were not too common place. What do you all think?

Love George, it's classic and timeless.

What about Henry, James, William and Edward

I have the same issue. Dh loves it but its just too popular. I have the same issue with Tom which I really love.

The only alternative we have is Harry ... which has the same issue Hmm

I think all classic english boys names have the problem of being too common place and its just something you have to accecpt if you want to use one.

That said, I am due in 6 weeks and we still accepted it and picked a boys name Hmm

bytheMoonlight - love Harry. It would be our second choice but our close friend's little boy is Harry so would feel bad about swiping it! Have the same problem with Henry which is also a lovely name!

I love George. My brother is George (back in 1980 it wasn't very popular and everyone thought my parents were mad clearly just ahead of their time!)

I love George but then my ds is a George so I should do really.

Don't worry I'm not offended by the people who don't like it, some people just have no taste Grin Wink

Others I like are;

Nicholas
Richard
Robert
Edward
Henry
Harry
Thomas
William
Oscar

On the being an overly used popular name our ds is William and we have never in his 4 years met another child called William (adults yes but no kids) - bizarrely dd has a really unusual name but in her little nursery there was another girl with her name and in her little village school of 65 children she is one of 3 girls with the same name so you just never know!
