What do you think of Frederick?

What do you think of Frederick for DS2?

DH and I are currently discussing names for DC2 due next spring (sex currently unknown).

We both love the name Frederick (it would probably be shortened to Fred or Freddie but be Frederick on the birth certificate) so I'm not concerned with whether or not people like it as such - my concern is that DS1 is George. If we had George and Fred would everyone immediately think of the Harry Potter twins? I'm hoping not because obviously DS1 and DS2 wouldn't be twins, wouldn't be ginger and in Harry Potter, they're always referred to as Fred and George, not George and Fred... Any thoughts?

No, did not think of the Harry Potter twins.

Go for it if you like it.

Great name :)

No, I didn't think of Harry Potter.

I would think of Harry Potter, but I don't think that's really a problem is it? The twins in it were nice characters, and not really people to be mocked for sharing a name with!

Both strong, traditional names, why should a book put you off? :)

I like it. It was my Grandad's name. Strong. I wouldn't choose it though.

Like it a lot. Even if ppl made the HP connection, it's a cool one. Plus they're not twins so hardly a glaring similarity unless you're called Molly or dh is Arthur.

Thanks everyone! That's quite encouraging - thought more people would say it was v obvious and to avoid it.

DinahRod - no, but our cat is Molly and we're considering Arthur for a middle name - hadn't even occurred to me that they were also HP names! Obviously JK and I share similar tastes...

Fred is fine, I personally hate Freddie - way to posh & affected for my liking!

Love it - it was my grandfather's name.
