Following my thread asking for ideas for a feminine, slightly ethereal girls' name, here is another list:

Adela
Jessamine
Vivienne
Blythe
Laurel
Ambra

Would be v grateful for opinions..

Interesting names! (in a good way)

I really like Jessamine and Laurel. Blythe I like but more as a middle name, I don't feel it passes the "Can X come out to play" test. The others aren't especially my cup of tea but nothing I'd advise against except Ambra which I think could be a pain getting mistaken for Amber all the time - I have never heard of it and anyway I don't find it at all ethereal.

Adela - like, also like Delilah/Della and Adele
Jessamine - very nice, although why not just Jasmine, and won't people mishear it as Jasmine?
Vivienne - dislike
Blythe - dislike, it's a surname or place name
Laurel - like, also like Laurella and Lauriel
Ambra - Ambre Solaire sun lotion and could be misheard as Amber (I like Amber)
Aphra - not keen

Adela -- Love (I love all the Pankhurst names though)
Jessamine -- too frilly, Jasmine is ok though
Vivienne -- Like a lot
Blythe -- Love; I think of a charmed 1920s life when I hear this name
Laurel -- Love; W.B. Yeats' A Prayer For My Daughter has the line 'O may she live like some green laurel/ Rooted in some dear perpetual place' and I love the image of the laurel from this poem, and the accompanying sentiment.
Ambra -- looks a bit made-up. Amber, which it's close to, always struck me as a name one of Barbie's friends might have.
Aphra -- Love (Aphra Behn reference plus lovely, light, slightly exotic sound of the name)

So --
I love Adela, Blythe, Laurel and Aphra, and I like Vivienne a lot.

Laurel does slightly make me think of Lauren and the comic character. It shouldn't but it does. Daphne is quite ethereal and I think, means Laurel in Greek mythology. Daphne was turned to a tree, don't ask, I think it was to avoid the advances of Apollo who was consumed with lust for her. Out of her head grew the Laurel tree and since then the leaves have been used as a symbol of stature and victory. Roman emperors had crowns made from laurel leaves etc.

You may have to be quirky to pull it off, as for some, it will remind them of Daphne from Neighbours, all those years ago or Scooby Doo.

It's a Greenwich Village type of name, I think. She would be attractive yet unafraid to wear spectacles, support Indy bands and have an obscure thesis she would like to complete.

Adela
Jessamine
Vivienne
Laurel
These are my favorite, Laurel the best, I think it sounds classy and very English and also lovely for a little girl and a grown up one. I chose this for my friends baby girl when I got to pick her middle name.
