Middle charge has taken it upon herself these last two weeks to INSIST we call her Ethel Hmm

And if I'm entirely honest, it's grown on me!!

Where on earth did she get the idea to change her name to Ethel from?!
I guess you can either go with the flow and call her that or take the stance that you will call her by the name you gave her and that's on the birth cert..?
I'd call her Ethel if it was me. Could be something she changes her mind about later.

I really like ethel and i think it really suits a baby! I wish i had thought of that name when i was expecting as it would have been on my girls shortlist.

No idea!...She wanted to be called "Balderdash" a few months back :o

We'll stick with Ethel until she changes her mind again :o

she sounds like a hoot Grin.

I have to say i prefer ethel to balderdash though!

When my ds was around 3 he asked why he was called XXXX and i said that we had choosen it for him and asked if it was ok for him and he repiled very seriously "well if you hadn't called me that i would like to be called Arthur!" We though tthatt was a good name!

I insisted everyone called me Bernard when I was about that age.

I suppose Ethel is preferable...

My dd wants to be called Shirley!

for what its worth Ethel is lovely and high on our list for a dd, with Ettie for a nn. I love it!

I like it. But I saw Dorcas on this board yesterday and was truly astounded that a few people seem to like it. Ethel is definitely prettier than Dorcas.

My niece went through a solid six months answering to almost nothing but "Mr Sausages". To this day, I'm none the wiser as to why....

Compared to that, Ethel is wonderful Grin.

Lol it did make us laugh for quite some time, luckily we have a sweet spirited family who would happily call her that without a fuss. She goes by her actual name now (though last weekend we had two days of calling her Dude)....

The Sam thing in your family sounds completely understandable, but still cute :).

Cousin sam is 15 yrs older so maybe he jus loved him :o

Ethel Austin connotation

That's not a bad choice of new name. When I was a child I knew a little boy who insisted on renaming himself Pengh. He even chose the spelling. His real name was Christopher.

Dude was pretty funny. Don't know where she heard it though lol, it's not really something that's said a lot in our family.
