Ok, after much discussion, my husband and I seem to have come down to a final three list of names for the boy we are having:

  1. Edward (nn Ted or Teddy or Ed)
  2. Alexander (Alex)
  3. Maxwell (Max)

I have been back and forth on the names and seem to go from deciding on one or the other.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

Like Alexander best. If DD had been a boy she would probably have been Alexander.

They are all good names though - none of them are going to make people go .

Alexander.

Edward - we are probably going to use for a middle name as it has family connections. I know 2 Edwards nn Teddy under age 3.

Alexander - I like as a middle name but not as a first name as it's a bit too plain/standard for me. If I did use it, I wouldn't attach the 'Alex' nickname, it's way too overused as a catchall for Alexander, Alexandra, et. all

Maxwell - my favourite of your choices. I love how cuddly the name Max sounds, and it can also be a 'grown-up' name too.

I like Alexander best, as I like the shortened Alex, Ally and Al that can be used as they grow.

Maxwell, easily.

Alexander would be my first choice, then Edward.
Max is a good name for a doggie - I have one

Alexander and Edward, yes; Maxwell, no.

Max is ok though.

Alexander of course

Edward (love) then Alexander.
Don't really like Maxwell personally (think of coffee or Eastenders!)

you need to add orville or something to the list for comedy value

Love Max, but not keen on Maxwell.

Alexander OK, but a bit over-used IMO.

Edward is nice, esp NN Ed.

Edward is lovely, my dad's middle name is Edward and am trying to persuade DH that we should have it as a middle name for this baby but he's not keen. I like Max too but not Maxwell.

Edward - lovely, and lots of good nn options

Edward or Alexander.

All the names are lovely.

I love Max rather than Maxwell. Alex(ander) is very popular. Edward has loads of nn potential - Teddy, Eddie, Bear .... These were all on my list and Max won despite the dog name comments. He acts like a mad puppy anyway .

Alexander is the best! Edward OK but a lot of them around. Maxwell makes me think of coffee (anyone remember Maxwell House)?

Alexander is classic with an international feel and there are a choice of nicknames, Alex, Alec, Xander and so on.
