Ds2 is only 2 weeks old and we finally agreed on a name for him which is Rocco.
So far everyone in RL has said it's awful.
Alot of older people have said it's aggressive and sounds like a boxer.
My mother said that people have told her that I've chosen a dreadful name and that Rocco is a well-known famous porn star.
Yesterday I googled 'Rocco' and the first thing that came up was the adult star.
DH met a few friends for drinks last week and they laughed when he told them the name and said they didn't realise we were into porn!
Dh came home saying he now feels like an idiot telling people our sons name as he had heard of this famous pornstar.
Now I am at wits ends.
My mother said people think I'm copying Madonna too(I'm not and not a fan of Madonna either).
I hate that the name is connected to a pornstar.Dh wants to change his name to Samson or Emerson.
I think Emerson goes well with ds1 who is Ellis but don't know what to do!Also like the name Asher.
Just sick of changing our minds so much.
Thought Rocco was a lovely name untill now
Anyway thanks for reading mn's

I know someone with a Rocco. It's Italian isn't it?

I think people who do this are rude and you shouldn't worry, specially not about those people who know the porn star - what kind of person does that make them anyway!?

aw that's bad luck. Thought most people would not comment once the name hadbeen given. Seems I'm wrong.

Maybe once the initial shock (?) wears off, they'll just get used to it. Does he have a second name?

i think rocco is lovely and had no idea it was a porn star!

actually makes me think of the cartoon 'rocko's modern life'

I remember you, there can't be two posters who were agonising between Samson and Rocco!

Er, but I hate Samson, tbh. I like Asher a lot, though. That's not helpful, is it?

Well it's a saints name, so even if you're not catholic I think that does a name a bit more history. It is hardly a made-up crazy jumble of letters deserving of mockery!!

There is a current trend for names ending in 'o' Milo, Hugo, Jago, Bruno....

Tbh I don't like Samson at all. It is a poor alternative to Samuel. Just stick with Samuel.

I really like the name Rocco but I didn't know about the porn link............... I know I've suggested this to you before, so I'm guessing Roscoe didn't float your boat at all? It has some of the same vibe, and doesn't go badly with Ellis.

I had no idea that there was a well known Rocco in the adult entertainment industry and I immediate thought of Madonna.

If you like the name then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Once the initial surprise/novelty value of the name wears off then you should be able to talk about your son without any sniggers.

If you do decide to change his name Samson is the best, imho, of your alternatives.

Stick with Rocco if you love it otherwise change now, you don't want to be regretting you choice when its too late.

You could keep Rocco as a middle name if you want a compromise.

Personally I prefer Samson of all your choices which could always be shortened to Sam by him if he found it a bit more 'unusual' in later life.

FWIW I knew a lovely Rocco at school but his family were Italian so it felt like it fit, hmm am now wondering if his parents were porn fans...

Do feel for you. Choosing a name is a big responsibility after all and how were you to know. I certainly wouldn't of.

How many of his peers will ever know though? But then I guess they will if their parents inform them. It's probably been spoilt too much for you now anyhow

I knew a family with a Rosco. Could you swap to that which isn't too much of a change?

Stick with Rocco. Even if there is a porn star called Rocco (which a lot of people are completely unaware of) this person will be long forgotten by the time your Rocco is 14 or 15.

I know a Rocco (a baby) and it suits him -- is your family Italian? I think that it's one of those names that, because it's not widely used here at present, does work better when there's a family connection to the country the name is from. Otherwise people are a bit like "why?"

But I wouldn't change it for that reason, and I'm not saying you should change it regardless. If you like it, stick with it. Rocco the porn star may be having a "moment" (I have no idea, never heard of him myself) but he won't be around long, they never are. And the Madonna thing is just dumb.

I think that people are connecting it to a porn star says a lot more about them than you.

I have never heard of this porn star. Rocco os perfectly acceptable. It wouldn't be my choice, but I think it great for you. Ignore, ignore nad it will die down.

Stick with the name; I'd be more worried how many people have heard of the porn star... says a lot about your friends eh!

I love Rocco. Please don't change it. It is lovely.

No one even now likes our DS's name but we love it. They think it sounds too much like a girls name but we think it is really cool and unique. It is Loran btw.

Anyway in 5 years time this pornstar i wouldn't know of won't even be around anymore.. maybe the next big one will be called Loran

Rocco Siffereddi springs to mind.

Excuse the pun.

If you like it, sod the rest of them.

I am sure there are plenty of people that will say they don't like any name you chose.

It is just one of those things!

There's just been a happy birthday to a roscoe on cbeebies!

I really like Roscoe and think it would be a good way of sidestepping the porn accusation, but if roscoe doesn't grab you at all, then stick with Rocco.

You poor thing, what rude comments from people in RL. It's really not on to comment on a name or let on that you don't like it once the child's already been named that.

I'd only change it if you don't like it, not to please other people. Agree them knowing it's a porn star name says more about them.

On the practical side, if it is a pornstar, that isn't something children at school will know (one would hope)and by the time your son has grown up I'm sure this pornstar will be long gone and forgotten.

Keep Rocco. I think it's really nice, My friend has a little boy called rocco, no Italian connection and I've never heard a negative comment. Every name has someone unsavoury who shares it, god knows why your friends know so much about porn stars! I think you might regret changing it.

I don't personally find Rocco such a brilliant name that I would keep it if I was uncomfortable with other people's reactions. Of the two others you are considering: Emerson and Samson, I prefer Samson.

If what your friends/family think is troubling you a lot, why not ask them what they think of those two names. Then change and keep Rocco as a second name. He's still really young, it is no problem to change at this stage and readjust to the new name.

Rocco is a beautiful name. Rocky is a lovely nickname for a boy.
