Fancy making my own bath salts

I rather fancy making my own bath salts. I love dead sea salts for my skin but they cost a fortune. I'm sure I could make my own. It struck me that I could make it in bulk with dd and then ta-dah I have potential for home-made presents too.

So, can anyone recommend a recipe please (there seems to be loads) and where can I bulk buy the ingredients? (and containers to put them in too.)

Just did a search for buying Dead Sea salts as I've finally got round to buying the essential oils for it and I seem to have come full circle and ended up back at my original thread!

Does anyone have a supplier that they use for bath salts please?

I've just found my pin on Pinterest for a similar thing. I have a link to Martha Stewart that says course sea salt, Epsom salt and baking soda. Is it the Epsom salt you're looking for? I think you can find that in Boots if you don't want to bulk buy large quantities. (Disclaimer: I haven't looked in Boots recently but am fairly certain I found it there once upon a time.)

Oh I'd like to do this, I agree the dead sea salt is lurverly in a bath.

Magnesium sulfate (Epsom Salts) is the base of most bath salts. You can buy it by the kilo in Boots, and it is really cheap.

Add some essential oils (eg lavender), and grind in a pestle & mortar or coffee mill.

If you want to give them as presents, add a few drops of food colouring too.

Cut a square of gauzy fabric and tie into a pouch using thin ribbon.

In the end I found a supplier for Himalayan salt (its pretty pink!) and has lots of minerals. I did think a lot about using Epsom salts but read that if you have heart issues you shouldn't use it as it can disturb the rhythm.
Will let you know how I get on! (I'm trying to recreate the Sakura bath bomb smell that lush used to do until they discontinued it)
I found some fab Kilner jars at ikea that don't cost very much at all, so if it works then it will be next years Christmas presents for people.

Worth knowing that I can get Epsom salts from boots cheaply as it would probably be ok for me to use some in there to bulk it out a bit and soften the water.

How can Epsom Salts affect your heart if you don't ingest them. The molecule is too large to penetrate the multiple layers of skin and get into your blood supply.

It is a pure substance, acknowledged by the British Pharmacopeia (BP, as well as EP and USP) - much less scary than an unregulated and variable concoction, peddled by people who see you coming.

magnesium is absorbed by the skin, isn't it?

Ive read conflicting reports on how much magnesium is absorbed through the skin and come to the conclusion, if it is absorbed through the skin then I need to be careful because I do have heart issues that could be sensitive to magnesium levels, if its not absorbed through the skin then it can have no therapeutic properties for the muscles as is claimed by many. So either way, apart from being a skin softener it's not that much use really.
Bloody google, in the 'olden' days,I'd have just added it without thought! After all, I'm just trying to have a nice bath that might help with aches and pains.

I made a foot scrub using Epsom salts and peppermint oil. It worked really well and I got the Epsom salts in a big bag ordered from Amazon. I recently went to a spa and they were offering the same thing as a body treatment to rub over your skin. So now I'm thinking of making some more in larger quantities to cover all of me!

I mixed Epsom salts, Dead Sea salts, lavender and lavender essential oil in a big Kilner jar. A plant scoopful in the bath and a good wallow. It helps my creaky joints and calms down psoriasis.

Next time, I would omit the loose lavender as it gets everywhere.

As an aside, when we went to olympia we were caught by a lady offering hand treatments, with Dead Sea salt and a nice smell. £40 a tub!!!!!
