Where do you shop for wool? If they have a sale on, so much the better.

I get cheap wool from charity shops, car boot sales and freecycle... I'm really crappy knitter so don't want to spend too much . I get needles etc really cheaply in charity shops too - I think all the dear little old ladies hand them in when their eyesight gets too bad to knit

I too get wool from the charity shop for some projects but there is a list of shops I and others use, here

Yes, I've had good bargains in charity shops and at the market, but now I want enough of something to make a jumper for dd2, and I want it to be actual wool...

I'm in the US so am probably not much help but I use Lion Brand or Coats and Clark. I'm not sure if they ship to the UK or if they have UK sites.

No charity shops here, sadly.

Janette's Rare Yarns on eBay
She sells end-of-line Rowan and Jaeger, mostly.
All prices are in $ but she is in Britain and is really efficient.

John Lewis has a half-price yarn sale with some good quality stuff atm.

HK Handknit also has a sale on and does online sales now - it is my and tamum's local shop and has lovely stuff.

If you want wool, I am knitting a sweater for ds in Lana Grossa Big Wool - it's dk weight, good range of colours, really nice to knit with, not that expensive iirc - you could google for somewhere with a sale on?

Hello TooTicky I noticed the other day that Getknitted have started selling something called Ecowool, and I thought of you! Don't know how it reflects on animal treatment, though. it's here. Cascade 220 is a wonderful wool yarn from there too, and is actually reasonably priced considering you get 220 m for the money. Agree with Pruni, Jannette on eBay is wonderful. Texere is also worth a look, they have some real bargains.

I can't remember how far you are from Bradford on Avon, but there is a shop there that mainly sells cards and stationery, that kind of stuff (called Quire, something like that?- near Bishopston Trading, anyway) and the woman who owns it has sheep and sells their wool which she gets spun for her locally. It's all aran weight in natural colours, I think about £3 a ball.

B-o-A is very close really. You sound as though you know it quite well.
And aran weight is just what I need atm.
Will also investigate the eco stuff.

Glad to help TooTicky I just googled it, and although they don't have a website you get a Google map link that seems to be the right place. It's got a dark green frontage. Funnily enough I was born in Wiltshire and lived there for several years, but I know about wool there just because of going to Woolley Grange every year!.

No, I don't mind at all! Born in Malmesbury and lived in a village near there until I was 6 We moved back down to Somerset when I was 9.
