Is there a proper name for a dress makers dummy/form? & do you think I could make one?

DD has taken up sewing (my fault)

& she wants a form/dummy as it would make it easier (which it would)

But I am not spending a fortune until I know she will carry on - so I have agreed to start looking for one when she has made her 10th peice of clothing

Not wanting to spend a fortune - do you think I could make one? then just keep adding layers to it as she grows?

Or am I doomed to ebay?

TIA
KMc

Its a mannequin you want. you can get them on ebay. I don't know how you would make one, short of using chicken wire and some papaer mache. You can get child sized ones, they are cheaper. She can hang her necklaces off it if she gives up sewing!

I was thinking of chicken wire & paper maiche (sp?) actually

Even child sized it's going to be expensive isn't it?

actually they are not too pricey on ebay, have seen adult one for £40 or so, so you might be better off getting one on there if you can.
One like this maybe

The second one is lovely - but £46 (incl postage)

Wow - she better get good at in

If i buy one I will keep having to buy new ones as she grows

you can always sell them on when you change models, but yes suppose it could get pricey!
