yet another sewing machine query.....

Hi everyone.

Bought a sewing machine off a car boot sale today.

Finally (thanks mainly to iota, J20baby and Dior) got it all threaded and put back together so that it goes round and it looks and sounds like a sewing machine should.

BUT.... (well, you knew there was one )

On one side of the fabric, there is the occasional stitch, on the bottom side, there is a huge knot of cotton. It is all the top reel of cotton that is knotted, and I think it is getting caught on the bottom reel.

Any ideas? I am a total novice, and I am so proud of myself for having put it together, so be easy on me, please????

thanks everyone
xx

bubblicious - whilst I understand the words..... I don't understand what you mean?

Can you put that in words of one syllable that a two year old imbecile could understand? (and even then you may have to simplify it for me )

that means is the pull on the thread ok, too much or too little.
there is a knob somewhere, usually along the path of the thread somewhere with numbers on it. check it isnt at 1 or 9, but somewhere in between.
i think you are very brave to have bought from a car boot sale. whilst mine is also a relic from the seventies, i was given mine, and shown how to use it. wasnt anything like my moms who also had a relic from the seventies/eighties, btu her's was more high tech

thank you.

My mum used to have a Singer, which I think was a relic from the 20s.... it had a huge wheel at the side and was dead simple.

well done! what are you making?

my grandmother had one of those. from the thirties i think? my cousin inherited that. no one would let me have it. something to do with possession being nine tenths of the law?
its still going strong.
